Oast House - table table Derby
Foresters Leisure Park, Osmaston Park Road, nr Derby, DE23 8AG
Tel: 0870 990 6306
This is a restaurant that has been run by various different chains over the years , it was a beefeater for a while but is now part of the table table chain. The building is also part of the premier inn hotel and on the same site is the Showcase cinema, a bowling alley, a bingo hall and also a Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken with a McDonalds over the road.
The Oast House building has an oast house roof but it is a fairly modern building that was built where a former army barracks home of the Sherwood Foresters regiment was knocked down in 198I so not an oast house at all really.

WHY THIS RESTAURANT?
The reason we go to this restaurant quite often at lunch time is that I get gift vouchers from my scanning of my shopping on the Shopandscan site that can be used here so we actually have a free lunch. We usually go if we are going to a film afterwards or we have a few things to do in Derby and end up here around lunch time.
The meals are really good value when on their special offers. At lunch time at the present time they are offering one third off the bill which meant our bill of around £17.50 came down to just over £11. They sometimes have a two mains for £10 offer at lunch which we have also used in the past.
WELCOME AND AMBIENCE
This is not only a restaurant but also a pub/bar and many people just come for drinks before or after the cinema and also many locals use the pub in this way as well.
As you arrive you are greeted and shown to a table. In our case, as it was a lunch time during the were asked if we wanted any drinks but we had things to do so asked for a jug of tap water. This arrived quickly and had ice and slices of lemon in it too which was rather thoughtful.
The restaurant section is almost like a conservatory as there are windows all around so it is nice and light there. There is not a great view as you look out onto the carpark and the cinema but still you feel like you are sitting in a nice light area.
The menus for food and drink are on the table already but the waitress brought us a paper addition with the specials on it as well. I think my dish was from this menu and my husband's was from the normal menu.
My dish was a chilli chicken and my husband had a steak and kidney pie. The food came reasonably quickly and I do rather suspect that they are not individually freshly prepared for each customer but I may be wrong.
My chilli chicken was a breast of chicken covered ina sort of chilli con carne mix served with a huge pile of rice and a tiny dish of sour cream and some taco chips. The chicken and sauce was really tasty and the sour cream nice but not enough as the rice was quite dry and the sauce over the chicken could have been more generous. However I ate the chicken and the salad that came with it as well as the sour cream but left most of the rice. I did enjoy what I ate so I was happy.
My husband LOVED his steak and kidney pie which came in a mini pie pot and was served with chips and vegetables. It was piping hot and he struggled to cool it down to eat it!
Each dish should have been around £8 as the bill came to just over £17 and at that price I am not sure it is wonderful value for what we got but at just over £11 and with my £10 voucher we ended up paying £1 and a bit plus a tip which is great value for a lunch in my opinion.
PAYING AND THE RECEIPT
You can choose to pay the waitress or go to the bar to settle the bill. There is never any fuss over using the voucher I have and I have even had change from the time I used two vouchers and the bill came to around £17.
On the receipt you are told that if you go on line and complete the customer satisfaction survey then you will get a free starter. This I did and indeed I now have a voucher for a free starter for our next visit. I might even wait till we have been again, and then fill in another survey so that we have two free starters, one each.
These are back through near where you come into the restaurant and bar. They are easily accessible and have always been clean whenever I have used them. They are now posh or fancy but perfectly serviceable.
Getting into the restaurant from the front means that you have to get up a couple of steps but I did notice a ramp up the side for disabled access when we were last there. Once in the building there are no steps to the restaurant but i think some parts of the bar are on different levels if I remember correctly.
WOULD I RECOMMEND?
Yes and no. We go here for convenience and because we have the vouchers. It is nothing fancy and the sort of food you get in many family type restaurants like Beefeater and so on. This is not somewhere I would go out for a meal at night or take friends for a meal there. This is what we call lunch time food or the sort of place you go to before or after the cinema or maybe Bingo or Bowling if you are into either of those.
This offers good tasty food, not exciting or anything really different but a good lunch time meal and if you use the special offers then they are really good value. At full price they are less good value but if you choose your dish carefully you can still get a darn filling meal. The fish and chips as well as the Scampi and chips are both very filling and tasty.
