This is a lovely little restaurant on Wandsworth high street that we quite regularly go to when we visit my daughter as she lives in Wandsworth and we can easily walk to the restaurant which means we can all have a drink and also get a bit of exercise when walking there and back.
It is not a big place and sits on the corner of a terrace so the door is on the corner of the building that sticks out. It has several small areas where a number of tables are so you are not in one large room full of many tables. It feels cosy and welcoming with floors of polished wood .Some of the walls exposed brick and others painted a deep brownish burgundy. The paintings and decor are distinctly Thai and it all makes for a very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere.
IT IS A SMALL CHAIN OR GROUP
I thought this was a one off restaurant but apparently it is one of a few in a small chain in London. The Thai Restaurant Group began 20 years ago and the first restaurant was the' Fat Boys Thai' in Chiswick. Now there are twelve restaurants across West London. The most recent one that opened is 'Thai Tho' in Soho.
The manager of these restaurants is Nicky Santichatsak and his philosophy is " that good food, great service and reasonable prices are vital ingredients to success."
The restaurants have received many awards and most impressive for a Thai restaurant is that the Thai Royal family chose to dine at the Thai Tho so that must say something about the quality and authenticity of the food.
AND TO THE FOOD
Once we have been shown to our table we usually order Thai beers and other drinks for the non beer drinkers and then sit and ponder the menu. We usually end up getting one of the set menus for four or five or six depending on how many are in our group.
We have found that we get a great selection with the set menu with a range of starters which include Thai Fish cakes, Vegetable Spring Roll, chicken satay sticks, crispy wantons, prawn crackers, chicken wings, prawn toasts and various yummy sauces to go with them.
The mains we usually get are red Thai curry, green their curry, often a Pad Thai, usually a fish dish and a couple of others and this comes with their sticky rice or egg fried rice.
We have NEVER managed to clean all the dishes before becoming full and we have pretty good appetites, especially the men in our family so you get plenty of food and every single dish is tasty, well presented and full of quality ingredients.
I am very fussy about my meat and chicken and can't cope with chewy bits or grissly bits and I have never had any cause to complain about any dish that we have enjoyed here.
As we have never managed to finish our main course and starter we have never had any desserts here. I am not a big fan of Asian desserts so it has never worried me. I am unlikely to get a crème brulee from a their restaurant and the only thing I might fancy is an ice cream and so we may as well pop in to Sainsbury's on the way back and get a Ben and Jerry's if we fancied something sweet.
THE SUM TOTAL
We find that if there are four of us the bill for two drinks each and the set meal for four is usually about £120 so, it isn't the cheapest place to eat but the set meal is usually about £20 a head so if you chose individual main dishes and no starters it would be cheaper and of course alcohol in London is expensive, much more so than up in Derby we have found.
Main meals are usually about £8 but the fish and seafood ones are much more expensive at about £13 to £15 so if you choose carefully you could have a cheaper meal.
Yes I would say this is great quality, authentic Thai food and the service is always excellent. The waitresses are in Thai dress and very quietly spoken, sweet and so humble.
We have been several times and will be going again I am sure.
Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same username.
Summary: A very welcoming Thai restaurant in Wandsworth
