It was my birthday yesterday, but at work we tend to go out on Fridays, so one of my friends suggested we go to our local Toby Carvery last Friday lunchtime.

Once there, it was easy enough to park despite the fact that it was lunchtime and we were in two cars (technically three because one guy joined us later). The car park is about average size for a pub and well-marked.

Inside, we were faced with a queue which was slightly worrying as we only had an hour's lunchtime, and there were eight of us. But the queue cleared fairly quickly and upon reaching the front we instantly got seated at a big table that comfortably seated all of us. In fact, it was quicker to seat us than the parties of 2 and 3 in front of us.

The waitress was pleasant enough and took our drink orders. We then all opted to go for the carvery buffet (except 2 people not eating). There was a queue for that as well, but it was definitely worth it!

There was a choice of turkey, beef, gammon, or all of them, carved by the chef. Then you could fill up on mushrooms, yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, stuffing, carrots, parsnips, sprouts, broccoli and much more! And believe me I did, I had trouble lifting my plate! There were also a range of sauces to choose from including bread and gravy. Everything except the meat was eat as much as you like.

The food wasn't michelin star quality but average bordering on nice. I did eat far too much though!

As we had got the lunchtime carvery, we got a discount on our desserts. Most of us opted for the reduced ice cream sundae, a good amount of ice cream with flakes and sauce for just £1.

All in all, we were late back to work and groaning all the way but it was definitely worth it. 2 massive courses for 6 people and drinks for 8 cost just over £50, which is fantastic value for money especially as most people had more than one drink and some had alcohol. The prices are higher in the evening but still a good deal.

Summary: I ate far too much!
