Advantages: Price overall!
Disadvantages: My potatoes had been on the hot plate for a while...a little dry!
I just had to review our local Toby Carvery restaurant. My husband and I had a fantastic, well priced, homemade, traditional carvery today. We ate at a local restaurant, but looking on the website, there seems to be many other Toby Carveries around the country.
We arrived at the restaurant and were seated promptly. There is an extensive range of meals on the menu, however, we opted for the carvery. Usually this is £5 or £8 after 6pm or at the weekend. However, we were lucky enough to have a voucher, £4.90 each for a carvery main course and an ice cream sundae for dessert! What a bargain!
The waitress took our drinks orders, again promptly and then said that we could go straight up to the counter for our food. The queue was small, we had to wait for just under 5minutes. Once at the front of the queue we could choose from a selection of cooked meats- there was turkey, ham and beef. You may think it is greedy, however, they were cooked to perfection, so my husband and I asked for a slice of all 3!! Once our meat was carved we were asked if we wanted a yorkshire pud. This had obviously been freshly baked and was not straight out of a supermarket freezer!
We then moved along the counter where there was a selection of vegetables. There were all sorts- carrots, potatoes of several kinds, cauliflower cheese... the list goes on! Not only could you help yourself to vegetables, you can also come up for seconds (and thirds!!) if you could fit it in!
Once we had piled our plates with freshly cooked veggies we went to the condiment counter. There were all sorts of gravies and sauces to choose from.
The restaurant had a real family atmosphere about it. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and helpful which really added to our experience there!
After digesting we had our ice cream sundae. However, there was an extensive list of other desserts and speciality coffees to choose from if we hadn't got our voucher! I might try the crumble next time. Yum!!
We were stuffed by the end of the meal so took our drinks out of the restaurant and into the bar area where we were able to sit down and relax.
A lovely meal, at a cheap price. I believe you couldn't cook a carvery at home any cheaper! Definately worth the price (and a return visit!) Im beginning to think that a meat, potatoes, yorkshire pud and vegetables should not be restricted to Sunday's! Well not at the Toby Carveries price anyway!
Summary: Overall a bargain meal, definately worth a look!

- 19/02/09 I'm sure my mouth would be watering if I wasn't a vegetarian lol! Great review. I am guessing this is a buffet-style restaurant? |
