“ BRITISH / FISH. 324 Upper Street London N1 ZXQ, Tel: +44 (0)20 7359 1401. Closed Mon lunch & Sun. Under £15/head. „
The fishbar is due to close this month ( August ) for good. Try it while you can. An Islington institution, as generations of N1ers and tourists muddle in at the check table clothed fab fish café. It's a straight chippie down one side, but to do it justice requires a seat. Great, really home made starters are probably not really necessary when you look at the size of the main courses, and although it might seem pricey to a passing visitor the quality is always spot on. Great Cod and Chips and Mushy peas is the only thing I eat, apart from the puddings which deserve a meritous mention. Do what my brother does, and if you can't decide... have two or three. Roly Poly, Treacle Pudding, Crumble, interesting ice creams. Stop stop enough. The service is charming, and done by memory, and if you are lucky the boss will stop and check that your fish is up to scratch, or chat about clocks or life in general. Very child friendly, and you can bring your own alcohol. Probably in the top three fish restaurants in London, and certainly my favourite. Don't stand outside like so many dummys do, put off by the thought of 9 quid for a fish supper Just do it.
