Advantages: fresh food, good service, one of the few indian veg restaurants in Cardiff

Disadvantages: some starters are overpriced

Vegetarian food studio or commonly known as VFS is situated in Penarth road in Cardiff which is just outside the city centre. It serves authentic vegetarian Indian food, specialising in Gujarati food.

I love eating north Indian food and every time I visited London, I would go to Eastham or Upton Park to eat them. Until one day one of my friends recommended VFS. I have visited this place innumerable time and would still love to go there anytime. It is my favourite veg food place in Cardiff.

It is usually open from 11 am to 9.30pm except on Mondays when it is closed. It is a family run restaurant, so you find all the members of staff very friendly. The ambience is good and everything seems pretty clean too.

They serve Indian chaats (bhel puri, pani puri), varieties of rice and bread, hot samosas and kachoris, dosas, mini meals (channa batura, ragda patties), oriental dishes and even a vegetarian thali (set meal). Their must try food is channa batura which is basically mild spicy chickpea curry served with bread. This costs £4.95 and is quite filling. Their thali is very popular and the price is quite reasonable when taken into account the number of items served in it. Thali consists of 2 Starters of our choice, a Curry of the day, Rice with Daal or Kadhi, 4 Rotli/Puri or 3 Bhatura, Sweet Dish and a Roasted Poppadom- all for £5.99

It does event catering too which turns out to be quite cheap. I used it for my son's 2nd birthday and ordered 2 starters and 2 main dish for 20 people and it came up to just £50.

They even do a special meal deal for students living in the Cardiff area. The meals are delivered to your house for only £3.50 per meal. If you request them they even send you packed lunches to your work place but within reasonable distance. When I was pregnant, I used to work in an office just a mile away from VFS. They used to deliver the veg thali every day fro almost 2 months- the food was very well packed and would still be very hot when delivered. I enjoyed eating then- I knew a lot of my colleagues wanted to get a bite of my lunch!!!!lol!

Me and my colleagues had a lunch party in VFS and everyone loved the place and the food. They wanted to come back there again with their family and friends.

The only disadvantage is that it doesn't serve non veg because I love chicken and meat. And yes the starters are a bit overpriced especially for eating in, but the mini meals and thali is a good price.

they do prepare a variety of Indian sweets and savoury snacks everything priced at £8 per kg. They are very tasty and always fresh.

VFS is definitely worth trying especially if you are a vegetarian or love veg food. You get good quality freshly made food served hot to tingle your taste buds.

Summary: If you fancy fresh, homemade style food, then VFS is your choice in cardiff.
