      Very helpful

This is written from the perspective of 3 adults and 2 children eating here early Friday evening.

      WHERE IS IT?

Address: Parsons Drive, Ryton, Tyne & Wear, NE40 3RA.

The restaurant is only a couple of miles from where we live so handy for local eating. It is situated off the road and next to a supermarket so parking is easy.

The building itself isn't especially inspiring it being a low level single storey square building but there is the red white and green awning outside to advertise the fact that it is an Italian restaurant. Once inside it is much more cosy looking with tables dotted around the 2 rooms and the bar as you walk through the entrance. The red white and green theme is continued inside with table clothes being in the colours of the flags. The décor is slightly dated and I almost felt as though I had walked into the 1970s, but it was all clean and functional so no gripes there. We were taken into the second room accessible via a gentle ramp and here you can see into the kitchen and watch the chefs cooking. This room was less cosy than the one we had walked into as it was empty but it did soon fill up with diners.

We were given a high chair and sat at a table which had a bench seat on one side and chairs at the other so were a little confined space wise but the other tables did seem to have a lot more space.

      THE MENU...

The a la carte menu features dishes which are regularly found in Italian restaurants.

For starters we chose potato skins (£2.25), bruschetta (£2.25) and calamari.(4.50) These came nicely presented on white plates which sat on a wooden board, so all of the accompaniments were included with the dish, and not served separately. There was also a fresh salad with the dishes. The potato skins were nicely done and not just big thick wedges but proper skins, and served with plenty of garlic mayonnaise. My son had the calamari, which can be difficult to cook, but which he said were very tasty and not tough at all.

There isn't a children's menu but the staff were ok about serving a half a pizza for grandson, and even added ham when he asked for it. This was exactly half a pizza, and had plenty of ham.I chose the pepperoni pizza (£4.95) which was tasty with a nice thin crust but lacking on the pepperoni side, there being 4 small pieces on the pizza! A vegetarian pizza was also ordered (£4.50) and this did come heavily laden with vegetables. We also ordered a lasagne (£5.95) which came served with a salad and which was slightly too cheesy for my liking but had plenty of minced beef. The final dish ordered was a sirloin steak (£11.95) which could be served with salad chips or seasonal vegetables; the chips were chosen and were nice chunky home made chips, with the steak being cooked as asked for, medium rare.

The dessert menu is fairly limited, with cheesecake, ice cream or chocolate fudge cake being on offer, but when the ice cream came it was very nicely presented with chocolate drizzled all over the plate and the ice cream sitting on the top.

The restaurant is close to us so handy for an early evening pizza. All of the dishes on the menu are reasonably priced so a visit to the restaurant wont break the bank.

Most of the dishes are well presented and tasty and although the pizzas aren't as big as in some restaurants, they are large enough for a meal; sometimes they are just way too big!

The staff are friendly and helpful and leave plenty of time between courses, and the restaurant and toilets are clean. It is a bit dated and could do with a bit of an update but for the price of the dishes, it's a good value local restaurant.

      Thanks for reading

      Daniela xx
