Advantages: Northern China cuisine
Disadvantages: expensive
JUST TO LET YOU KNOW.. MOST CHINATOWN RESTAURANTS USE HEAPS OF A SUBSTANCE CALLED MSG WHICH IS PROVEN TO BE DETRIMENTRAL TO HEALTH.. SO BETTER DON'T GO TOO OFTEN OR BETTER NOT AT ALL.. I AM VERY SUSPICIOUS THAT MY HEALTH DETERIORATED BECAUSE OF MY FREQUENT VISITS THERE.. "Yming" in Greek Street is not in the centre of Chinatown but still quite close. ATMOSPHERE: The atmosphere is formal, its not suitable for an everyday diner there. This is more the restaurant for a date. At the time we have been there, I have seen mainly European clientele. According to their homepage they have non-smoking areas. TOILETS: These are clean, so nothing to complain. They use marble for the sink which makes it look nice. FOOD: We ordered "chicken with fresh mango" (£7.80), Manton (£2.00), "extra fried rice with pineapple and shrimps" (£5), jasmine tea for two (£2). Altogether the quality of the food was very good except the pineapple which was rather tasteless. The jasmin tea had whole leaves which is a sign of the good quality. They have lots of unusual dishes, like Manton and other Northern China cuisine. Apparently they have won some "Rosette Award 2000" whatever that is. SERVICE: Seems to be quite good. The waiter was helpful even though I didn't understand much because he explained it in Chinese to my wife. ;) Really funny was that they automatically gave us the desert menue without asking after we had finished our main meal. On the menue it says "If you required a taxi please ask the staff", which means good service ...or they know a company which pays commission. ;) PRICE: Price-wise its quite steep, the bill with the service charge amounted to £18.50. So nothing for an everyday visit. They have a homepage (http://www.yming.com/) which is _again_ unusual, so you could say this is an unusual restaurant and worth
an visit.
