Advantages: Quick service and healthy food

Disadvantages: can be pricey

I have eaten in Yo Sushi several times now and always enjoyed the experince. I have been to two different outlets and the experince has been pretty much the same in both.

The two Yo Sushi's I have eaten in are both in Manchester. One is in the centre of Manchester in Selfridges, and the second was in the Trafford Centre again in Selfridges department store.

How does it work?

When you arrive at Yo Sushi, one of the staff normally seat you and takes a drinks order, (although I have seated myself on occasion when staff haven't been forthcoming.) You are not seated at tables, but seated around a conveyor belt so it is like being seated at a giant breakfast bar with a conveyor belt of food running in front of you. In the middle around which the conveyor belt runs are the chefs preparing the food. On the table/breakfast bar in front of you is a water tap, with still and sparkling water, napkins, chopsticks, menu, soy sauce, ginger and small plates. There is also a buzzer for calling over the waiter/waiteress.

The Food.
In the menu it explains the food that is available on the belt going round in front of you. It has pictures but it can be hard to spot them on the belt. There is also a selection of foods you can order mostly hot. To order you just call the waitress/waiter over by pressing the buzzer. The food you order and the food on the belt all comes on colour coded plates. Each of the plates is black with a coloured rim. The colour of the rim designates the cost of the food (they range from £1.75 to £3.50). The food is sushi (raw fish and rice). But they do do other dishes like terriyaki chicken , which is hot dish you can order. The freshly prepared hot food is delicous.

The Drinks:
Water is charged at £1 for still or sparkling and you can have as much as you like for your pound, it is on tap so you just help yourself. There is the same deal with green tea costs you £1 and you can have as much as you like. They also have the normal selection of drinks that you can order from the menu, including alcholic beverages.

How You Pay:
When you are finished and want your bill you press for the waitress/waiter. They come over count the no. of plates of each colour and tally it up on your bill along with any drinks . You then take to the cash desk and pay.

I like Yo sushi for lunch as it is so quick to get served no messing about and no waiting. The food is healthy and fresh and you can see it being prepared. It isn't cheap I generally end up spending around £10 when I go. I have been with friends but I have also been when I have on my own. I feel quite comfortable grabbing lunch there on my own when I'm shopping.

I would generally recommend the experince but it isn't for people who don't like fish and it isn't great for vegatarians.

Summary: A good place for food if you like fish.

I was fairly impressed with the outlet in Islington. It wasn't as good as family-run sushi bars that I know but still more than acceptable.

I've been to the Yo Sushi in Poland Street and the only real I problem I had was trying to tell whaich dishes were the veggie ones. Apart from that, The Boyfriend and I got drunk and had a lot of fun. :-)
