      Very helpful

Kör is pronounced almost the same as the French coeur, hence the title...

I would like to offer you a very nice restaurant in Budapest. Still not my favourite one but they offer really delicious meals and the restaurant is situated in a very nice area in the heart of the city.

Café Kör is situated in the bank quarter of the city; most of the big banks have their headquarters in the neighbouring streets. There are loads of young people in suits hurrying somewhere in the afternoons. The restaurant is walking distance from Arany János utca metro station or Lánchíd over the Danube. There are fabulous old buildings in the streets however there are some new modern office buildings which don't really fit in the atmosphere of the area. I prefer the old buildings of course. They are beautifully decorated and have history.
Café Kör is situated in 17 Sas utca. The sign of the restaurant can be observed quikly. By the way Kör means Circle, so you will find loads of round things in this restaurant. Even their sign is a circle...

      The restaurant
The management of the restaurant wanted to do something different and new and I have to admit that they did. They have a very polite staff that speaks foreign languages. They are really helpful and kind. The restaurant has a very inviting atmosphere and the decoration is nice and simple.
Overall the décor of the restaurant reminds me to French cafés as it is airy, the decoration is minimal but warm and comfortable.

      My visit
I was invited for a dinner in this restaurant by one of my former bosses. She is aware of all the posh restaurants and cafés in Budapest. However she selected the location I have to admit it was a good decision. There was nice music in the background which wasn't too loud so we could speak. The tables are not too close to each other.
We booked a table in advance as the restaurant is quite busy. Once you tried their dishes you feel tempted to return and try something else next time. When I was there I had salad with grilled fresh cheese. I haven't eaten such delicious cheese since then. It was divine. I had a glass of Chardonnay as it's my favourite wine and my dinner was perfect. Everything was delicious and the portion was big and filling.

However they have a fix menu they have a very wide range daily offer too. Due to its location this restaurant offers breakfast too. It opens at 10 o'clock and you can have ham and eggs, scrambled eggs, sunny side up eggs, boiled eggs or toast with jam for breakfast. They offer tea and coffee of course.
As per lunch or dinner you can select from about 20 salads as cold starters offered on the fix menu, or about the same quantity of main courses. The dessert range is not so wide but they make different pancakes and some pies along the ice cream.

The staff was flexible, so you could change the garnish of a meat or add/remove some ingredients. I had really a wonderful dish which tasted superb.

This restaurant offers a very narrow range of spirits or beers but a very wide range of wines, sparkling wines and champagnes. These last two are not my favourites so I stack to a glass of white wine which was fantastic and fitted my salad very well.

Regarding the soft drinks they have Coca Cola products, mineral water and some fruit juices.

Despite its central location I think this restaurant has very moderate food prices. For example a salad is about 5-6 pounds, a main course is about 8-10 pounds. Their drinks are expensive though. For example a glass of Chardonnay costs 7 pounds which is expensive I think.

      Other information
The restaurant accepts cash payment only and it is very advised to book a table because it is a popular restaurant. The telephone number for table booking is +36 1 311 0053. You can visit the homepage of the restaurant too at www.cafekor.com. The opening hours are between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
I had a wonderful dinner in this restaurant and the atmosphere of it is memorable. I can really recommend visiting it, the dishes they offer are delicious and the portions are large. The variety of the menu is really good so I am sure you will find something you like. The staff is very polite and professional. It is a nice place it is worth visiting once in Budapest.
