Advantages: Delicious cakes, lovely building
Disadvantages: You will want to go back and keep eating cakes!
This cafe is gorgeous - you must take a trip or two to it while you are in Prague!
My friend and I discovered it in the Lonely Planet mini guide book we bought while looking for a recommendation for a great coffee shop so that we could sample some cakes!
In our 4 day trip we ended up here three times! It is a traditional Parisian style coffee shop in a stunning building with traditional decor inside. It is always reasonably busy so a great atmosphere but you can always get a seat - or at least we had no problem.
They serve light meals but i can't comment on those as we always just had coffee and cake!
You must try the iced cappacino - very sweet but utterly utterly delicious. My friend ordered the large chocolate cake on our first day there - and when they say large they are not underestimating that! It was the biggest piece of cake i've ever seen - we were so in awe we had to take a photograph of it next to the coca cola bottle to show the comparison of sizes!
Needless to say she couldn't finish it and i had to help her out - it was lovely sticky chocolate cake and not too sweet.
They also had a lovely rasberry cake which i tried and we both sampled the black forest gateau on our last day. Needless to say we both came home a few pounds heavier than we were when we left home.
The prices were reasonable - definately not cheap but for the size of portions and quality of coffee and cake it was extremely good value. Plus the waiters do not rush you and many people sat there for a long time reading the paper and having a coffee.
It was a very relaxed environment and would be a great place to go and sit on your own or with a small group of friends.
It is well positioned in Prague so that if you have been sightseeing it is a welcome break to go and find the cafe and chill out with a coffee.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough - so remember the name and make sure you drop in if you are in Prague!
Summary: Traditional Parisian style coffee shop in the centre of Prague
