Newest Review: ... including a very old water wheel are aslo on show for guests to look at. The modern part of the restaurant is still quite traditional in style and decor but instead of illustrations dotted on the walls there are a mixture of bare walls of red brick and stone. To follow the fashion of the old and new in the restaurant we were provided with two different menus - one was a traditional Portuguese menu offering a good choice of meals from this region of the higher Alentejo sometimes called Ribatejo. The Alentejo is a favourite area of Portugal for our family to visit mainly because when we go back home to our land in the Algarve it isn't too far to drive and stay over a few nights. Summer days in the Algarve are very hectic these days although in our valley in the foothills of Monchique we hardly see more than 3 or 4 people a day and one of them is the goatman who takes his herds up into the mountains. Although we love our valley and the scenery we do like to get out and about and it's usually to the Alentejo we travel because there are some fine beaches and cracking restaurants.
