      Go with an appetite!

You might have noticed my passion for reviewing things I've seen/visited on my two visits to New York this year. Dallas BBQ was on my list before trip number 1 having done an online mooch for NY restaurants. Just off Times Square in the hustle and bustle is this crazy place. I say crazy because I have never seen anything like it in the UK, or heard of anything.... Throw the revolving doors, which can proove tricky just to get to with all the people outside! A rather smiley person at the bottom of an escalator (escalator!!!) greets us and asks how many in our party. First visit there was 4 of us, and we went for an evening meal. We were seated on the ground floor quite near the entrace but not so near that we got the draught from the door. It seemed fast paced but not frantic. Our waiter was over quite quickly, menus are printed on paper on the table already and we were browsing and ordered just drinks first. I had a lemonade, and the rest ordered cocktails. The size of those drinks! I mean mine was big, and was a soft drink, but the cocktails were massive!A meal in themselves. If I can remember rightly they are served in 14oz glasses (but dont quote me on that, all I know is the are big!) Service is quick, and theres a real fun atmosphere. The decoration is in place a bit full on, the prairie montage on the wall with 3d bulls wasnt quite to my liking but overall its clean, tidy, warm and friendly. I went for a steak with 2 sides. There is a wide range available in the bbq genre, but if you're veggie or not a big eater, I would say dont go. Theres a lot available but its not a widely varied menu. Lots of combo deals are available too, which my Dad partook in, involving steak, chicken wings, prawns... a real mans meal. Again the food was pretty quick, given the number of covers they have, Im sure the sides are just constantly ready and one person is in charge of each variation of cooking one main, i.e one guy for rare steak, one guy for medium, and they must just cook cook cook! Food came out piping hot which was just what we needed. And god its well cooked. My steak was exactly how I ordered it, the bbq glaze was sticky but not solidifying, sweet but not overpowering. The greatest delight for me was the cornbread, I've never had it before but it was fantastic! Really light with a buttery mouthfeel and it was perfect for soaking up some stray bbq sauce. Service was quick, friendly, hot and exactly what a BBQ house/grill should be like. We visited again in July, height of the tourist season for a late lunch and the service was exactly how we remembered and we sat on the first floor, only to discover there is more again! They must use a lot of beef in that place! It was always tidy, clean and the staff welcoming, which for somewhere so busy and large is generally the first thing to go. This is the perfect place to go after a long walking day, ideally after a nice long day spent in Central Park. We spent about $90 for a party of 4, including drinks and then in the summer for lunch spent about $40 including drinks, and dont forget to tip your server.

Fun atmosphere and great food for all the family!

If you're ever in New York and fancy a huge meal for little money, then this is the place to go! Upon arriving at the restaurant (situated on West 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues) you walk through the revolving door and a very pleasant waitress asks you how many are in your party. This is then radioed up to the main reception desk, located at the top of a tall escalator which you then travel up. If it's busy, you'll be asked to wait for a table (and usually the place is packed - but well worth the wait). You are then escorted to your table. I'm not exaggerating when I say this place has 2 floors full of tables, and additional seating near the entrance where you walked in. Now we get to the best part...the menu! Every taste is catered for here, all within the BBQ genre, of course. There are plenty of nice starters to choose from, lots of main courses, platter combos, you name it, and it's there. Personally I went for one of the $17.99 combos (no starter needed here as the portion sizes are huge). My meal consisted of a steak, a 1/4 of a chicken, prawns in breadcrumb, chips, cornbread, pitta bread and fried onions...! And yes, that was a combo for one!!! There are all sorts of variations, but be aware that if you're looking for the healhty option you're best going somewhere else. The service is very good and quick, drinks are very generous in size, and the staff are really friendly. Furthermore the atmoshphere is great too; lots of different people there, families, couples; it's great for everyone! They will even wrap your food up for you to take away if you can't manage it all. For me, this is one of the best places to eat in New York. If you're after a friendly, buzzing atmosphere with great food, this is the place. Just set aside $50 for two people and I guarantee you won't be leaving hungry!

"New York's most popular BBQ restaurant" at least since its arrival in Times Square in 1998.
