Advantages: Good menu, popular spot

Disadvantages: Gets very busy, expect to queue

Dux de lux is a restaurant and bar complex in Christchurch that is well worth the visit. We popped in there for a drink one Saturday afternoon and kept returning throughout the rest of our stay!

The bar only serves their own micro-brewed beers on tap and having sampled a few, I can recommend them all! Various recgnised soft drinks and bottled beers are also available for the less adventurous along with a wide variety of wines as you would expect for anywhere in New Zealand.

My wife is a vegetarian but will eat fish and Dux de lux perfectly caters for people like her as other meat simply isn't an option! There is a wide variety of vegetarian meals here to cater for all tastes and the place gets very busy on evenings and weekends because of the quality of the food.

Ordering food is quite a strange affair and resembles a school canteen type of scenario. We were initially a little unsure of how it works as there are waitresses walking around the restaurant. Basically, you pick what you want from either the menu or the huge boards at the queueing area and then place your order and pay. The food is then brought over to your table. As I've said before, if you want to guarantee a tabre and speedy food, make sure you get here early as queues outside the door are not uncommon.

The restaurant is near to the Arts Centre and a market is on at the weekend. Dux de lux becomes a popular place to meet and have a drink outside on one of the many tables and again, you need to get here early to pick a spot. Its easily accessible from the tramway just jump off by the market and museum.

Summary: A really good alternative place to eat in Christchurch
