Advantages: Price, cheap good wine, fabulous food, friendly service

Disadvantages: Portions too large

In a city where you can eat just about any kind of cuisine from around the world, it's a bit sad to choose a fairly basic pizzeria as my favourite restaurant in LA. But every time I go, I keep having to go back there.

Situated on fashionable (so they tell me) 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Johnnies is a no nonsense New York style pizzeria serving truly fantastic pizzas and pastas.

While the quality of food and service is excellent, the best thing about Johnnies is the house Chianti which is only $5.99 per litre (yes $5.99).

The only down side is the portions are just too large (even by American standards).

Parking is close by either in the multi-storey car park at the Santa Monica Place centre (if you can figure out the parking fees, please let me know - some times its free for as long as you like, others it $5 with a maximum stay of 3hrs). Otherwise park on street a couple of blocks away.

Friday and Saturday nights are busy, but even then I've never had a wait of more than 15 minutes.
