Advantages: The HUGE yummy pizza
Disadvantages: The scatty waitress
John's Pizzeria on Bleecker street is something you must do if you are in the greenwich village area.
Don't go along thinking that you can just get a slice of pizza, as the famous sign above the door says "No Slice"!
You will need to go on an empty stomach as the pizza's are huge. We were a bit confused as we went in as the waitress seemed a bit crazy! She gave us a menu and it was a bit like a chinese (numbers to choose different pizzas). So we spent ages deciding which number we wanted, yet when she came over, she told us not to take any notice of the numbers! This may vary from waitress to waitress but she seemed to be the only one around (in a VERY packed restaurant)!
So we picked all the toppings that we wanted, basically went for most of the meats on a regular base.
The service was pretty quick considering everything is done from scratch, took about 20 minutes to arrive, but in that time you can take in the traditional interior, and read all the hundreds of scratched names in the table!
When our pizza arrived it came delivered on a metal stand. This was so the pizza was raised up so you had space for your plates underneath! Yes, the pizza was that huge!
Even though it was huge, we scoffed it all down! And it was the best pizza we have ever had in our life!
We are going back to New York at the end of this year (2009) and this is on our list of places to go back to! Highly reccomended!
Summary: A true experience of a traditional Pizzeria
