Advantages: Great food, atmosphere and great music

Disadvantages: None, it's all good!

San Francisco is one of my favourite places on Earth. And Lori's diner is one of my favourite places to eat there.

Sure it's not an original diner from the 50s, but a very faithful reproduction. I love the cosy booths and retro furniture, the neon lights, the jukeboxes and the never-ending stream of classic 50's Rock'n'Roll music coming out of the speakers.

As soon as you walk in, you step back in time, and you can't help but feel like you're on the set of Happy Days and the Fonz is about to walk in.

They have several locations around San Francisco (including the SF airport), but my favourite is at 500 Sutter St. They've parked a light blue '59 Edsel in the middle of the restaurant which really adds to the atmosphere. If you look out the window, cable cars are gliding by, on their way to the nearby Union Square. You couldn't wish for a more authentic dining experience. The Powell St branch is much larger and the one on Mason St is open 24 hours!

The menu is your classic American fare - Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, French Fries and Coca Cola, as well as omelettes, pancakes, sandwiches, etc. For dinner you may opt for steaks, pork chops, steamed vegetables and rice, stir fry or salmon fillet, as well as soups and salads. Veggies like me have no problem finding something on the menu, which can be tricky in some places in the States.

The Friday only Clam Chowder is not to be missed! Otherwise my favourite choice is the Veggie Chop Top Sandwich with grilled spinach, mushroom, onions, peppers & feta cheese on sourdough bread.

If your stomach has any space left, the desserts are gorgeous and the old-fashioned coffee shake has to be seen to be believed. I wish I could have one right now.

Their website has money off coupons, which you can print out and just hand in at the restaurant, although the prices are very reasonable anyway. The service is excellent, make sure you leave a tip!

So, if you're going to San Francisco, "make sure to wear some flowers in your hair" as the song goes, but also make sure to visit Lori's. You will not be disappointed!

Summary: A must see in San Francisco

This sounds like my kinda place! Wish I could go, shame it's in America! I'd be there every week. Would need a Drive In movie afterwards as well xx
