There was one just down the street from where i lived so i went there often. Swiss Chalet is a chain that mainly deals in rotisserie chicken and ribs at fantastic prices. Soft drinks in the restaurants are free refils which is great because chicken and ribs normally make me super thirsty. There's a pretty big menu available with starters, mains, sides puddings and also a kids menu. The menu also shows healthy options for those of you watching your figures. Ok, so my first best place to eat in Toronto isnt a restaurant. Cheating i know, but if im reviewing the food there, i cant leave this out. HOT DOG STANDS!! I was so poor at times when i lived in Canada that i really had to budget for days out. Hot dog stands downtown are on near enough every street. Prices for a basic hot dog are between $1-$3. Theyre nothing like ive ever tasted here and i dont think ill ever find one thats as good. Every stand sells drinks too and several kinds of relish that are all free. Toronto has an endless list of restaurants. Because of its multicultural nature, I imagine good places to get chinese/italian etc would be in the individual districts although this is something I have never done. Eating in Canada is always a pleasant surprise as even in top class restaurants the cost always pleasantly surprises me. A meal that would cost us £150+ in the UK will cost less than £100 in Toronto. For a casual meal at a good pizza restaurant for example could cost you about £30 including drinks and tip which is pretty good.
