      Very helpful

An rustic restuarant in a modern hotel.

Somewhere in the basement of a 5 star hotel, the Grand Hyatt, sit a quaint eatery called Pete's Place. Pete's Place is an Italian restaurant situated within the shopping belt of Singapore. It has been around for more than 20 years though I only found the place 10 years ago.

Grand Hyatt has undergone several renovations throughout its 25 years and is now a modern looking, swanky hotel. Thankfully, Pete's Place has retained its old worldly charm of a traditional Mediterranean kitchen, table set in red/white check cloth, candles and dim lighting.

Pete's Place is known for its selection of over forty five dishes, from oven-baked pizzas, steaming hot soup to tasty homemade pasta. There is a bread counter of freshly baked bread for customer and the selection of homemade butter such as orange butter, garlic butter is simply delightful.

Customer can choose from the a la carte menu or from their monthly specials. The specials usually include soup, a main pasta dish, dessert and hot beverage. Sometimes, they even have the chef cooking your order of pasta in your presence. I actually learned how to cook pasta after watching the chef.

Beside pasta, the restaurant also sells meat dishes like grilled steak, lamb chops and chicken. These dishes are slightly more expensive than the pasta dishes and are usually not included in the specials. There is also a nice selection of anti pasti and sauces to compliment the meal.

I like Pete's Place especially for the selection of freshly baked bread and pasta dishes. I like their thin crust pizza and especially the calzone which is folded thin crust pizza filled with mozzarella, minced sausage, cherry tomato, garlic and fresh chilli. My favourite pasta is spaghetti with half lobster, scallops, clams and prawns in rich seafood sauce and fresh herbs.

There is also a good selection of wine though it is rather expensive. A bottle of wine costs about $60 Singapore dollars which is £20. The pasta dishes in the a la carte menu costs around £5 each and the meat dishes around £8, based on the current exchange rate of $2.20 to £1.

Pete's Place is open for lunch and dinner. The opening hours for lunch are from 1200hrs to 1430hrs and dinner is from 1800hrs to 2230hrs.

Have a meal in Pete's Place when you visit Singapore, you wouldn't regret it.
