Disadvantages: A good stroll from the centre of town (if lazy), Ned to book in summer/weekends

It's taken me a while to heed the advice, but dining pleasure in large, tourist-driven cities is more pleasurable if you are more courageous. So, if in Barcelona, avoid the Ramblas for eating (save it for strolling) and head out to Port Olimpic to try the splendid beach-front restaurant, Agua. The lovely decor (or beachfront terrace, depending on if you've booked in advance) is matched by friendly service and some superb seafood and carpaccio dishes. I had king prawns absolutely drenched in fresh garlic followed by pasta with seafood and chilli. There was a good wine list and great deserts too, yet this is not at a cost to stretch your pocket unless on the tightest of budgets. There is also the advantage of some great bar activity just a few yards down the road at the Olimpic Port itself and the incentive of a gentle stroll back to town to walk off the calories.
