Advantages: Very reasonable prices, fantastic traditional menu and delicious pizzas!

Disadvantages: Advise to book a table as it is very popular.

Stopping overnight in Rome can be daunting but we stumbled upon at lovely little hotel in a sleepy suburb to the North East of the city. Asking reception where to eat, they recommended 'Hostaria Menenio Agrippa' at 631 Via Nomentana. It was only just round the corner but when we arrived it was heaving - pizzas were flying out of the kitchen and the pasta dishes looked superb.

We decided not to wait for a table (we really advise reserving in advance) as we found out that the pizzas could be ordered to take away. We chose from the extensive menu a Capricosa and a Calzone and they were prepared within a few minutes. Whilst we were waiting we browsed the main menu which looked fantastic - traditional Italian cusine at extreamly reasonable prices. Our two pizzas cost only Euro5 each and for a city centre restaurant it was very reasonable!

The pizzas arrived piping hot and we made our way rapidly back to our hotel where we devoured them, savouring every mouthful. The pizza bases were light and crispy on the edges, soft in the middle, with a large amount of toppings including an egg! The Calzone was stuffed full of proscuttio cotto, cheeses and other delightful fillings and we ended our meal very satisfied.

We would definitely return on our next visit to Rome, reserving a table in advance and would throughtly recommend this restaurant for an authentic Italian meal, great value and friendly staff.

Summary: A great traditional restaurant serving excellent food at budget prices.
