Advantages: Relaxed, good food, sensor overload

Disadvantages: Entertainment is aimed at hardcore clubbers

This unique restaurant was recommended to us by a friend who said that it was very hard to describe but incredible. On that basis we booked a week in Amsterdam and pre-booked the Supper Club.

Just off Dam Square it is impossible to find without walking down alleyway after alleyway, we had visions of a really trendy bar frontage and as a result we actually walked passed the front door 3 times without realising. The front door gives you an idea of the uniqueness of the place, it is a huge gold plated door covered in miniature plaques each showing names of celebrities that have frequented the club. I saw Michael J Fox and Lionel Ritchie and that was good enough for me!

On entering you are taken downstairs into the 'dungeon' bar (you can't review this without it sounding like a seedy brothel!). Leather clad black walls with dangling handcuffs await you in the seating area, at this point we're starting to question the sexual preferences of our friend who gave us the recommendation! We had champagne at the bar and waited to be summoned...The Buddha look-alike host invited us all to join him in the dining room where we were led upstairs, he flung open the large double doors and my jaw hit the floor as the size and ambiance of the dining room hit me (honestly feels like you've just entered the Tardis!). It is split over 2 floors with each wall consisting of a row of beds. Everything was the whitest of white and a real shock to the senses.

We were shown to our bed (told you it sounds seedy!) which was about a king size and then the entertainment started. If I'm honest the 'entertainment' was a bit poor, however, the 2 transvestite DJs were funny. I'm not a big lover of dance music but it was a great atmosphere and not too noisy!

As we sat up in bed we were first given some soup which was delicious (think it was butternut squash), part of the enjoyment is trying to eat whilst being in bed. This was shortly followed by a lemon sorbet to cleanse the palette. A fish dish arrived which to this day I have no idea what it was but tasty nonetheless. I was quite disappointed after the fish as I was still quite hungry (assuming the fish was the main course) but was then over the moon when a plate of fillet steak arrived in my lap. Can't remember what the dessert was as I think we were now onto our 4th bottle of wine (only 2 of us!).

You do sit quite close to the people either side of you but after a couple of glasses of wine you don't really care and end up conversing with them all night!

Whole thing cost about £120 and we are already planning to go back probably within 18 months. There are other supper clubs around the globe but there is something about the Dutch that makes places like this so enjoyable (and no I don't mean the weed!). The friend that recommended it to us wanted to open a supper club in Leeds....can't see it myself!

Summary: Well worth a visit

Sounds an interesting place, but you didn't say if the food (other than the starter) was any good or not.
