Advantages: Food, Staff, Entertainment.

Disadvantages: None.

While me and my fiancé were in Corfu last week we actually found it a bit hard pushed to choose places to eat of an evening basically because there were so many that looked really. One place we did stumble upon was the three little pigs and while I was doing my research on Sidari which was by where we were staying everybody had recommended it to eat and spend an evening there so this is what we did on our second night of being on holiday and this is what it is like.

-----

What is the three little pigs?

Well the three little pigs is a very nice and elegant looking restaurant despite what the name might suggest. It sells fantastic Greek specialities as well as some favourite English dishes with relaxing and fun music and great entertainment.

-----

Where is it?

Unfortunately it is not in Britain but in the resort of Sidari in the Greek island of Corfu. There is no point in me putting down the address and phone number but if you go to their website at http://www.sidari.biz/thethreelittlepigs/index.htm then you should be able to find out everything you would want to know.

The restaurant:

When you walk by the restaurant there are a few things that you will notice. The first is the huge blue sign with red letters saying the three little pigs as seriously it is that big and bright that you cannot miss it. The second is that there are chalk boards right outside the restaurant saying about the specials that you can get and also a board saying ‘tonight, Greek dancing, fire dancing and plate smashing don’t miss it’. We have heard a lot about the Greeks and their plate smashing so after seeing this sign I was immediately hooked. The third thing is that all of the waiters are so friendly that they wave to you and say hello to most people that walk past and unlike other restaurants they do not approach you and pressure you to come in.

You can actually see what the restaurant looks like as it is all open plan so as you walk past you can have a good look. The tables are all square with a mixture of sizes and they are all quite close together as is the same with many of the Greek restaurants. There are no walls to the sides and front as it is usually warm so it is all open plan and the ceilings are a very strange zig zag shape with beams snaking over them if you can imagine that.

When you are inside the restaurant you can look straight into an archway at the back and you can see the kitchens, bar and toilets and the kitchen is great with a huge stone oven which looks brilliant. The archway and wall at the back is made out of light stone giving the whole place a nice, comfortable and airy feel to it.

While you are seated the waiters come over to you so you do not have to worry about getting up, the toilets are very handily situated in a place which is easy for everybody to get to and also very friendly and relaxing Greek music is played all day and night so it gets you in a very good mood for your meal.

Food and Drink:

Now the food is fantastic here and the choice on the menu is great. You have all of the normal starters you can get such as garlic bread and mushrooms and things like that but everything tastes different because they are cooked a different way. We had garlic mushrooms which were in a small bowl with sauce all over them, which tasted fantastic and then the garlic bread actually had cloves of garlic on the top giving it a real kick in the taste.

For main courses there are great choices as they have all normal dishes such as lasagne, steak and salmon things like that. They also though had a Greek menu showing all of the Greek specialities that were on offer which of course is part of the reason why you go abroad to taste their food. What I can recommend the most is stuffed peppers which are truly yummy as they have mincemeat, rice and tomatoes and chips and just yum. They also do have a vegetarian section on the menu which has quite a few choices including things like stuffed peppers.

The only thing they fall down on with food is their desserts as unless you like ice-cream or pancakes then you will be stuck. My fiancé Dave tried the ice-cream which was lovely and I had a pancake and they both came with sparklers so you feel that little bit special.

With regards to drinks they basically have what you would expect which is your soft drinks, your hot drinks, some juices, cocktails and then wines, beers and liqueur coffees. Be careful though as they sell the wines in carafs and half a caraf is enough for about four small glasses of wine as we ordered a caraf one night and there was more than we could drink.

-----

Prices:

The one thing that this restaurant has spot on is the prices as everything is so cheap and we had a two course meal with two drinks each for €19.20 which is hardly anything and I think works out at about £15. you would think that the food would be rubbish but it is all so nice so I was really impressed.

The starters can range from €2 to about €6 and then main courses are all around €4.50. Puddings are €3.50 and then the drinks are what are extremely cheap. Our half caraf of wine which remember was about four glasses was only €4 and it was delicious. The food and drink portions are extremely generous so you are getting a lot for your money.

-----

Staff:

The staff were amazing in this place and they truly make you have a good time. Like I said above before you even get into the restaurant they are saying hello to people and waving so you can immediately tell they are extremely friendly people. I think I liked this restaurant the best in Sidari because all of the staff were Greek so it gave a real Greek feel to the nights we spent there which is a lot different to everywhere else where some people were English.

-----

Location:

The location is actually quite good as it is right on the corner of a few quiet roads situated between Sidari and Canal D’amour which means a lot of people do see it. It is central to both resorts so where ever you are staying it should only take you five minutes to walk back to your accommodation but seriously you cannot miss it because it is such a huge place. All of the roads are relatively quiet there so you have no problem with traffic noises while you are eating.

-----

Entertainment:

Now the entertainment is where this restaurant gets it spot on and actually beats all of the other places in the two near resorts. We were promised by the board of Greek dancing, fire dancing and plate smashing so me and Dave waited patiently for it to come on. It finally did at about half nine in the evening when we saw one of the waiters walking around squirting what looked like fairy liquid onto the floor and up the walls. Two minutes later and the lights went right down and two more waiters came out and just stood there. Then another waiter lit the walls where the liquid was squirted and fire spread everywhere. This looked so good as the two waiters started to dance in the centre of all of the fire and they stayed doing it for about ten minutes. Everybody clapped and away they went.

About fifteen minutes later and the same thing happened again only this time one person danced and other waiters started to throw plates into the dancing area. This is a true Greek thing to watch so I really enjoyed it and was basically very excited that I had seen plate smashing one day into my holiday.

We thought that would be it for entertainment but another fifteen minutes went by and four people came out with one dressed in a really stupid wig. They began to sing and stayed there for about fifteen minutes and they were fantastic all playing their different instruments and it was truly a lovely way to end the night.

-----

Verdict:

This restaurant is renowned as one of the best in this area of Corfu for food and entertainment and I am so glad that that fact turned out to be true. I liked the way that the waiters were not pushy and they basically let you sit there and take your time as we were in there for over two hours.

I think in the resorts of Sidari and Canal D’amour which are basically Britain abroad, this is one of the most authentic Greek restaurants to go to and to be honest the only one in the resorts I would recommend so if you do ever go to these areas of Corfu then make sure you visit.

Oh one more thing for the ladies, all of the waiters are extremely cute too.

Thanks for reading.

Despite a few visits to Cyprus to stay with the outlaws the best Greek restaurants I have ever been to are to be found in North London.
