Wave - you just cannot beat it for quality of food, price and location....... Right by the Hudson on the Esplanade in Battery Park City, Wave has the most fantastic views over the Hudson River to the Statue of Liberty. To get there, take the subway to the Trade Center and walk through the Financial Center Mall to the Esplanade. Evenings are the best time for this, the atmosphere along the Esplanade is different to any you'll find anywhere else in Manhattan, and the area is an absolute favourite of mine. I have been to Wave a number of times and also used their takeaway service. As takeaways go, it's average value, but to eat in, the value is superb and the views across the Hudson are second to none. Food is good, but the view is amazing enough to warrant a visit even if the food had been average. Book in advance to be sure of a place........Wave is one of NYC's best kept secrets, but gets busy at peak times, mainly with regulars! They are very child friendly, but this does not detract for other visitors. I hosted a web meet at Wave last summer and everyone loved it, both those from NYC and those from further afield, both in the US and the UK. Afterwards have a wander along the Esplanade towards Battery Park and then back towards the Financial Center. there is a great store selling ice creams and frozen yoghurts on the street parallel to the Esplanade and you can take your dessert (a great way to finish off the meal) back to one of the seats by the marina for a wonderful end to the evening. Oh, and even people who generally didn't much like Japanese food, or had never tried it (it's NYC's big food craze) loved this restaurant...... :-)
