Chad Valley Shopping Trolley
Shopping in Style
My daughter celebrated her 2nd birthday (which I couldn't believe! How time flies!) at the weekend and among all her lovely presents, she received a Chad Valley shopping Trolley from Argos.
I have found with the Chad Valley range of toys that they don't use excessive packaging for their toys, which means that you are not paying extra just for the packaging which is always a good thing.
The trolley comes in an average sized box, big enough to fit the small trolley into and nothing else (though not a tight fit at all). The box is in green colours which I have found runs through many of the Chad Valley imaginative play range so easily recognisable and very eye catching which is why Argos is good as the child can not see the items and want want want as they walk through the door!
On the front and back are images of the trolley and also the extra 30 pieces of food items that comes with the trolley.
The box also states the recommended age to be 3 plus though to be honest I don't know why the age is that high as my daughter has played with a trolley at toddlers from around the age of 18 months and there are no small parts at all, so I would say that the age is more from a steady walking age upwards.
When opened, the trolley is in two parts in a plastic sealed bag and the food items in a smaller separate sealed bag.
TIME TO SHOP
As mentioned above, the trolley comes in two parts and to put the trolley together is very easy in a click press system which locks to stop the child breaking it apart. The handle of the trolley also moves up into place in the same click and press system which can be brought back down again for easy storage. The wheels also need clicking onto the base though this again is a simple click and press motion.
The trolley itself is in neutral for either a boy or girl. It is brightly coloured and very lovely to look at with red as the main trolley basket colour, yellow legs down to blue wheels and matching blue handle.
The trolley is made of quite sturdy plastic - usual with these types of toys. There are no small parts to the trolley and no rough edges so perfectly safe for little ones. The plastic itself is quite bendy, even though it is sturdy, and a great amount of pressure may squash it so I keep my husband away from it!
One worry I had was that the wheels would fall off when pushed around the supermarket as I thought my daughter would prefer shopping if she could put her own shopping in her own trolley - and it works for a while and then mummy has to push both trolleys! I had no need to worry, though, because no matter how fast my daughter pushes it, the wheels are clicked on fast.
The trolley is just about the right height for my daughter and would possibly last perhaps another two years at most before it really would be too small for the child.
Included in the toy are 30 pieces of play food which range from some cardboard cartons and cereal boxes which are thicker cardboard than in the 104 piece food set which I am also writing a review on, some 'cans' made of thick durable plastic and some food items such as bread roll and chicken which are made of softer plastic which can be dented if pressed hard enough.
Overall, the look is great and the durability is also good - sturdy when the child leans and pushes it, with no rough or small parts.
MAKE BELIEVE LEARNING
My daughter couldn't wait to open this toy and start playing with it and it didn't take long to set up which is always a plus when buying a present for a child on their birthday or Christmas as they are always so impatient to start playing with new toys. Straight away she took her trolley to the 'shops' with her new food set which was brought for her along side this one.
The trolley also comes in handy for mummy too as I can store a fair amount of the play food within the basket of the trolley keeping the floor reasonably free of play food!
The trolley itself is also very good with helping my daughter around the supermarket. Before, she used to get bored easily, which would result in the terrible twos temper tantrum (say that a few times fast!) though now my daughter manages to amuse herself by helping me to put smaller items of food in her own trolley and then taking them out again at the checkout. She also takes her small bag to put some items in herself to carry back home.
The trolley promotes great imaginative learning which I personally believe is a must in young children and love watching my daughter play pretend - she has such an amazing little imagination already which is great. It also promotes understanding when going around the supermarket, as well as creative skills and had and eye co-ordination involved in imaginative play.
Toys are generally so expensive these days though this set is average price and can be found at all good Argos stores either in the catalogue or online. This trolley is £9.99 in the catalogue when brought alone and is also in the two for £15 range which covers quite a few different toys such as the shopping trolley, till and many other toys throughout the catalogue in the mix and match range which is really great value in my opinion.
My daughter thoroughly enjoys playing with her trolley and loves taking it out to the shops. It not only keeps her amused with many different games in the house, though helps around the supermarket when we are doing a large weekly shop. It is durable and brightly coloured and comes with a bonus 30 pieces of play food which is great.
Alongside her 104 piece food set, her new kitchen toy and till - she has hours of fun!
I fully recommend this toy, especially when under the two for £15 range in Argos.
Summary: A great little pretend and play toy
