My daughter loves Peppa Pig but finds it hard to concentrate on imaginative play. This is one of the only toys to have captured her imagination to play out scenes and stories.
The play set is a foldable house (32.4x22.4x10.2 cm) with a handle for carrying around and all the accessories can be stored inside. The handle is detachable. It comes with Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig, Peppa and George and a number of items to furnish the different rooms.
The bedroom comes with the bunk beds and a ladder. The ladder is a little fiddly to attach to the beds however it is easy for little hands to put Peppa and George in their beds.
The living room has a television, a chair and a sofa. The chairs have small indents in which to sit the characters. Unfortunately when the seats are moved the pigs just tip off which can be quite frustrating for a toddler (and for me as I have to keep repositioning them!).
The kitchen has a set of table and chairs but they are not quite big enough.
The bathroom comes with a little roll top bath however only Peppa or George can fi in it. It is too small for Mummy or Daddy.
My daughter's favourite part is the stairs which can be positioned where you like to allow the characters to go up to the bedroom or bathroom.
The whole set is very true to the TV show and the detail is exact. My main criticism is that it is not stable enough. I find that I have to set it up against a wall or cupboard otherwise it is forever falling over backwards.
This set costs £23 and can be found on Amazon or any of the other on-line toy retailers websites. We have another of the play sets (the Peppa Pig Treehouse) but this one is definitely my daughter's favourite and was worth the money, especially to get the whole Peppa Pig family included.
Earlier in the year my girls discovered Peppa Pig and she quickly became one of their favourite things, so when a friend asked what they would like for their 2nd birthdays anything Peppa Pig was my suggestion. They were both very excited when they saw that they had got Peppa Pig's house and I then had the fun task of getting all the pieces out of the box and put together as quickly as I could.
The external walls and roof of the house are all made from one piece of plastic which are held in place by a plastic twist handle this also acts as the chimney pot. Upon opening the house you have a set of stairs and bedroom and bathroom floors to slot into place. These fitted in easily enough and I then went about arranging the furniture. You are provided with a bunk bed, table and chairs, sofa and chair, tv and bath.
Obviously to be able to play with Peppa's house you need Peppa pig and small plastic figures of her and her brother George are included with the house. It's a shame Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig weren't also included but other characters are available separately.
Playing with the house
When I put the house together for them to play with I didn't realise this was an activity I would repeating a lot. Although the recommended age is 18 months + this toy just can't withstand my toddlers playing with it and the bedroom and bathroom floors just keep coming away. This leaves us playing with the ground floors preventing Peppa from enjoying her bath!
In terms of giving toddlers a toy for imaginative play this is a great idea as they can act out their everyday activities of eating, watching tv and sleeping.
Price and availability
As this was a gift I don't know how much it cost but the RRP is £29.99 and it can be bought from retailers such as Amazon and Tesco. As with most toys based on tv characters I feel this is overpriced and could have been better made.
Would I recommend?
If your toddler loves Peppa Pig and you are happy to keep putting it back together then yes. My girls do enjoy playing with this and I hope that they will get more play from it over the next year or so.
This play house is definately an up grade on the original Peppa Pig house as it has much larger floor space for the bedroom and bathroom, making play much easier and the house much sturdier.
I chose to purchase this house for my daughter who was 2yrs old at the time. At this age her imagination and pretend play was limited. However over the last 12 months this house has made a regular appearance in our daily activities and resulted in us purchasing other items from the Peppa Pig range to expand our daughters ability for role play.
The house and its contents are durable and good value for money. It has not suffered any damage despite continous use. The furniture and characters are made to a good quality and there is a lot of it and it's likeness to the programme is brilliant.
The only things I would change is that Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig should be included as standard and that the ladders to the bunk beds have a better clip on or be attached to the bed as they do have a tendancy to fall off and I regulary need to put it back on.
I believe this house is a must in any childs Peppa Pig collection and is still a much loved toy to my now 3yr old daughter. It has lasted the test of time and hopefully I will get another year out of it. I will then save it for my new son when he is old enough.
