Combat works more fluidly, and there is more scope for degree of failure or sucess. Character Classes: in the 2nd edition, there were basic character classes - Fighter, Ranger, Wizard, Priest, Rogue. You could get seperate packs for things like swashbucklers, barbarians, druids and the like but there wasn't much scope. Your character class det...more

Premium Review Dugeons & Dragons Third Edition Player's Handbook: Here be Dragons (760 words)

The new edition of Dungeons and Dragons - it's third incarnation, marks a significant change to the mechanics, but has not deviated from the original spirit of the game. Every change seems to be an improvement. As a player of this new system I have had plenty of opportunity to test the new player's handbook, and I like what I find. The premise of the system: Dungeons and Dragons allows you to run high fantasy games. Premium Review Dugeons & Dragons Third Edition Player's Handbook: Great! At Last! (108 words)
by - written on 27/11/00 (Somewhat useful, 99 readings)

The New PHB and the DMG for that matter and both totally different games to what has gone before. Rather than just rehashing the old tired rule these are totally new. I am the President of my University RPG Society and they love this game. There are 3 separate versions running at the moment that I know of and they all think it is great! I own all of the main books for it at the moment and intend to gather more. Buy it, especially if you are tired of AD+D 2. It will bring life back to a tired campaign! ...  Read the complete review
