“ Brand: ELC / Type: Childrens Role Play „
The cut and play cake is something children where I work get excited about as it is used only on their birthdays and they get to cut and share it with their friends, so it is used a lot.
Despite regular use it is still in perfect condition. The design is beautifully detailed and perfect for the occasion.
The cake comes with four slices, four candles and a cake knife. This means you can choose how many candles are put on the cake. As our children are under 4 this works out well but if they were older there wouldn't be enough candles. It is a plastic cake which is around the size of a CD.
It can be used in many ways and help children to learn and develop in the areas of the EYFS (early years foundation stage):
Children can develop fine manipulative skills putting the candles in place and hand eye co-ordination cutting and putting the cake together, a bit like a puzzle.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development:
Children gain social skills and sharing as they share the slices between their friends. Unfortunately this can only be between four children and we always have a lot more than that!
By giving the child a birthday card they should be able to recognize their name and can be helped to read the rest.
As the cake is in slices it helps them learn sharing and fractions. The unique design can also help the understanding of patterns and sequences as the icing on the cake is in alternate colours. We always clap for the age of the child which improves counting skills.
Expressive Art and Design:
The cake usually inspires children to sing "Happy Birthday" and celebrate the child's special day. We do this as a group for every child on their birthday which makes them feel extra special for a day each year.
Understanding the World:
Children can be taught understanding in how some cultures cake is a tradition on individuals birthdays.
Children often use the cake to share between friends, a bit like a tea party and although it doesn't stay out too long they enjoy playing with it when they have a chance.
This cake is a very important cake where I work and would be great at home for parties, whether real or pretend.
