ELC Magical Sparkle Wand
Advantages: Noise, lasts well
Disadvantages: Only available in pink, quite heavy
My niece has had a few of these over the years and I have also seen them in numerous classrooms and kids clubs as part of the dressing up box. Most young girls love to pretend they are a fairy or princess and of course in order to be a fairy they will need a wand! There are a lot of different fairy dress up outfits available but few of them have a wand or, if they do it is a flimsy one that will not last too long!
This offering from ELC seems to be very popular. It has been available for a long time (at least 10 years) and I dont think that there are ever any drastic changes to design. Currently you can pick the wand up for around £5 which does seem a bit pricey compared to some but do keep an eye out for the numerous 20% off events ELC hold as then you can pick it up for a magical £4!
I have only seen this available in pink and it does have a feminine pattern on the handle, however if this were plain and the wand was a different colour I think that a lot of boys would be more interested in the product too, especially after the phenomenon that is, of course, Harry Potter. I know wands for the Harry Potter range are made that are a bit more true to the books but a wand like this would be perfect for younger wizards!
The wand takes 2 AA batteries which I believe you need to provide yourself. To put these in is easy and they simply go into the handle. You are then ready to begin your magic.
The wand is a really good size and is around 12 inches long, however as it is quite chunky and made of solid plastic it is quite heavy so just beware if there is likely to be a terrible twos tantrum (or if in my nieces case any age 1-8) rearing its head!
The wand is musical and when waved it does provide a sort of sparkly magical tinkle which helps to emphasise the spell or wish that the child is casting. The batteries in this last for ages (as long as it is not used all day every day) and the noise isnt too irritating compared to some childrens toys!
The age range for this wand is recommended for those aged 3+.
This wand is a good addition to any little angels collection. It is one of the better quality wands that I have seen on the market and the addition of sound really makes it appealing to children and adds some excitement to play. If my new niece or nephew is a niece (or a boy who shows an interest in wands) then I am quite sure that either me or a member of my family will buy them one of these because they are excellent quality and we have seen them in use many times over the years and they are always enjoyed.
Summary: Good wand
