For my son's birthday his auntie bought him a wooden tea set to go with his small wooden cooker he got for Christmas. I will point out at this point this tea set is rather small and maybe wouldn't suit all children but for my son it was perfect. It is just the right size to go with his cooker. He did have a plastic tea set from Tesco's but some of the cups had cracks on from being accidentally stood on so a replacement was very much needed.
The set comes with ten pieces. All the pieces are made from sustainable rubber wood and the items have been finished with non toxic paint. So you could call this set a bit of a green friendly product. The tea set contains a tea pot with lid, a sugar bowl with lid, a milk bowl, two tea cups, two saucers, two mini spoons and a wooden tray for it all to sit on. The set does keep a lot of its natural wood on show but there is a small amount of colour to it. All the handles are painted in a light shade of orange and the two lids a light shade of green on the little ball handle. This is a nice subtle touch to the tea set.
As I mentioned to begin with the set is rather small and this should be noted before buying it. To give you an idea of the size the tray the tea set sits nicely on measures roughly 22.5cms by 17cms. The tallest item on the tray is the tea pot and that is roughly 10cms tall. I was really pleased with the size as my son's kitchen is only very small and all the food and pots and pans to go with it are too so fits in nicely. Something I did find was it is great on the move as without the tray it carries very nicely in a small bag. We have done this on a couple of occasions to our local pub for Sunday lunch. It has kept both my boys occupied till their lunch came!
The most important opinion of all is my son's. He is three years old. This is the recommended age range for the product but a month or two younger wouldn't be a problem either. It is a perfect toy for role play. And like all the wooden toys we have brought recently for his cooker this tea set has added to this. On opening the product my son instantly wanted it removing from its cardboard packaging. He instantly set it up and began making tea for all. Pretending to add the sugar and the milk to the cups is something he loves to do. The only problem my son has with the set is when people come over he doesn't have enough cups to give everyone. But what is great is he uses his imagination and washes the cups up to give to the next person you just have to wait your turn. I love this and it has had quite a few people in giggles when he does it.
As with most wooden products it does come with a heavy price tag, lucky for us it was given to our son as a present! You can get it from Amazon for £18. I have to admit you can get tea sets at least half of that price but there not wooden and don't look as fantastic as this one. I love wooden things for my son they last longer and are made of better quality. This set would make a great gift for any young child.
