A fantastic toy for budding chefs.

Looking for ideas for Christmas gifts always seems like a daunting task, and wanting to give something that is guaranteed not be duplicated by other gift bearers gives even more of a dilemma. Well I shop in Ikea fairly often, loving all the unique little toys, and I found this lovely little set for about £7.00 which makes it a lovely little gift for any little one.

The set comprises of a brown soft fabric basket which holds thirteen items of plush brightly coloured fabric vegetables. The basket also helps to keep all the pieces neat and tidy and has convenient handles helping little hands to carry the basket around .The vegetables include a mushroom, a tomato, 3 carrots, a leek, a garlic bulb, leeks, and a lettuce. The lettuces leaves have Velcro so they can be taken off and replaced, for enhanced play. It makes a wonderful role play toy allowing my son to imitate mum safely. My son uses it alongside a set of cheap saucepans and wooden spoons which I purchased separately or his little toy shopping trolley. He spends hours playing with the vegetables and he gains a lot from them, both in entertainment and in enhancing his imagination which gives him better social understanding. I consider these two factors very important when choosing toys for my little boy.

The vegetables can get grubby and I have washed them in the washing machine at 40 degrees a few times and they have come out lovely and you can also tumble them for quickness although I haven't tried this preferring to hang them to dry. The fabric is 100% polyester and the filling is polyester fibres.

The item is stated to be recommended for three years but I purchased it for my son on his second birthday and he loves it very much and I have had absolutely no issues with it at all. The article number is 101.857.48 and it is part of the DUKTIG range. These are available in store, I bought mine in Milton Keynes store but I should imagine they are sold in most if not all Ikea stores. It is not available to buy online which is a shame if you have no means of getting to a store.

My son has been playing with this quite often since he received it for his birthday in June and absolutely loves playing make believe games so this has been ideal. It has also increased his interest in baking with me. Which although it can be very messy it is also great fun!

Overall a fantastic little set of toys, that has given my son hours of enjoyment at a very reasonable price.

A lovely fabric play set of food which appeals to young children

      ---- Introduction ----

IKEA is a well known large swedish retailer which sells great things at very competitive prices. In recent years it seems to have started producing more toys and children's accessories. I always find that I end up buying more in this store than I have on my list (that's probably why my husband doesn't take me there very often!!) IKEA does have a website now but it looks as though you can buy the bigger items of furniture from there but not the smaller things, like toys, kitchen accessories etc.

      ---- About the Product ----

It is a gorgeous soft play vegetable set in a brown soft fabric basket with two hand sized holes cut into the side. There is a lettuce with removable leaves which attach with Velcro, a mushroom, a tomato, a bunch of 3 carrots, a leek, a clove of garlic. (I'm not sure what else originally came in the set, some of it is now missing).

It is recommended for ages 3+. It can be washed in the washing machine on a 40 degree wash followed by tumble drying on a low heat (According to care information on website - I haven't attempted to wash them yet). The fabric is 100% polyester and they are filled with polyester fibres.

      ----Summary----

I bought this for my daughter last year for Christmas when she was 21 months old. It is a 14 Piece Soft Vegetable set from IKEA, from their DUKTIG range. It isn't currently available to buy on the IKEA website but is generally available in their stores.

My daughter loves playing with this food and often makes me some yummy meals which I have to eat! This cost £6.99 which I think it a good price for well made, tasty looking play food. (Added bonus, this play food won't hurt your feet when children leave it all over the floor!) This would also make a great gift.
Great buy, we have bought some of the fruit in this range for Christmas this year.
