In the days when AD&D was stuck in the loop of very few PC races and classes, the Druid was, to say the least, one of the worst choices for a character (especially for a beginner). But with the release of the Druids handbook and some well presented articles in Dragon magazine at around the same time the Druid is now one of the underrated sub-classes. They are no longer restricted to the forest protectors they once were, and have been allowed to branch out into all climes, from swamp druids to arctic druids, they have finally grown into almost a character class of their own. The AD&D class guides fall into two main camps. First are the four main character class guides - fighter, mage, priest and thief - that expand the rules in a way that any campaign can use. After that we get to the more specialized guides, that at first glance would look to be of use only to fans of that individual character class. To a certain extent, that is true of the druids guide. Much of its content is only going to be of use if you play or DM a druid. However, some of the ideas in later chapters are ideal campaign springboards, and the detailed background is very usefull.
