Advantages: Well presented, Informative

Disadvantages: can be overly complex and too detailed for beginners

The complete book of Dwarves is an indispensable resource for players and dungeon masters alike in AD&D, although I must admit, as a non standard character player, I rarely used it outside of running games.

It contains most of the information you would ever need on most of the dwarven races, including their history, statistic modifiers and skills/characteristics for each subrace, specialist character 'kits' (A kit is a specialised skill set that can be applied to a character according to it's class and the way the player wishes to play it), as well as sections on designing dwarven adventure campaigns, and dwarven strongholds/mines.

As with most of the second edition handbooks it is well laid out, with all chapters logically ordered and well indexed.

The only downside I could possibly see for the inexperienced roleplayers, is that like most of the TSR products (I don't know if the WoTC reprints are better, I haven't used them yet), it can tend to get overly complex and a little too attentive to detail in parts, especially in the mining and strongholds sections here.
