I went along to a Heroquest LARP event. I had done Live action role playing before but never with this group. At first I was slightly put of by the fact that they were possibly the most expensive group in the UK. However from my first email enquiry I realised that this was a proffessional organisation who genuinely wanted my custom and took steps to ensure that I would have a good time. I was sent detailed instructions as to where to go what to bring etc. On arrival I was greeted by a very friendly and helpful referee and introduced to the other players. The big difference between Heroquest and the other events I had been to was that the event was run for 1 party ... Read the complete review

Live Action Role Playing. What images come to mind? Strange, unshaven men immersed in hideously complicated rules and many-sided dice? No, that's Dungeons & Dragons. Those funny historical things that people do on TV or at medieval fairs? No, that's battle re-enactments. Do not be confused. LARP is something completely different, a whole new fantasy world, somewhat similar to that in Lord of the Rings, except that you do not follow a set script: the characters make the story move and thus evolve many intertwining plotlines in their own unpredictable way. I discovered an organization called Heroquest thanks to my dad, who has been involved with ... Read the complete review

Back in the days before computers were common in every household, children found entertainment in various ways. One of which was to sit around in a circle and throw dice at each other. The intent was not to take out an eye or leave little indents in the childs head opposite. No this was far more serious, the role of the dice could leave you with far more serious wounds, even kill you altogether! I am of course talking about the fictional world of Dungeons and Dragons. Before people start screaming about there being a D & D Category, I know and all will become clear as to why this is here, so read on. Dungeons and Dragons was my first step into a fantasy ... Aha, seems I have a much broader spectrum of gaming knowledge than some casual rpg' gamers who just tend to stay on the consoles and never move off them and then lay claim to the fact that they, in fact, are RPG gamers. What a load of old fishy codswallop. Rpg gaming, back in the days of yore, when computers were the size of three terraced houses and limited programming meant we had the likes of pong to deal with, meant that to enjoy and involving and captivating experience one must find a way to do it on the most mediocre of formats. Paper, pencil and a set of dice that would over time come to be cursed against your luck <or so most gamers tend to ... Read the complete review

Doctor Who:Invasion Earth (DW:IE) is an excellent wargame based on the television series of the same name. Put simply, you take control of either a good side or a bad side and fight in out on a tabletop! The good side usually consists of The Doctor, companions, and some UNIT troopers whilst the bad side consists of you're own choice of Doctor Who baddie! Whether it be Cybermen, Daleks, Autons, Ice Warriors - you can get figures for nearly everything, all beautifully crafted and a joy to paint. The reason I love Invasion Earth so much is because I'm a novice at wargaming and I found the game really easy to pick up. The manual that accompanies ... Read the complete review
