In days gone by, more specifically in my formative years, the whole genre of roleplaying and wargaming was the sole concern of a certain stereotypical sub-species of humanity. He (for it was pretty much a male domain) was bookish and fairly solitary, he was the type who was unlikely to have a girlfriend, but who was able to recite Monty Python scripts verbatum, he was non-sporty and probably listened to Heavy Metal.
