What other game could you play evil incarnate? As a vampire you get to stalk darkened streets sucking the blood from virgins and foiling the attempts of foolish mortals to end your reign of darkness, cool eh? The idea is you play a vampire with all that entails, no sunbathing, draining blood and an allergy to steak. But you are your own man sort of. You don’t have to be a monster, beast you are lest beast you become… There are plenty of archetypes you can follow, the Anne Rice arty angsty type, the romantic Dracula, the bestial Nosferatu. I’ll deal with details later, I was introduced to this game slowly and levels of conspiracy were ... Read the complete review

I just read a review on Vampire, and thought that I'd add my voice to the mix. Now until I came across a group of people all huddled round some strange shaped dice, shouting stuff about taering each other limb from limb, I'd not really come across role playing. About 10 years ago now I moved into a shared house with load of mates. Little did I know at the time that they had a secret society that they all belonged to. Soon I too was initiated, and was soon a vampire myself. At first I'd just watch them play, and was truly amazed at the skill involved. Not a load of sad loosers, as many people would think your average role player must be. But a highly skilled ... Read the complete review

Imagine staring at your best friend across a dark oaken table buried deep within her fortress. It's the dead of night and only candles flicker nervously either side of her eyes to light this large room. Their little globes of orange are pitiful, failing utterly to change the room in any way. Not only not dispelling the darkness but actually emphasizing it's power and dominance. The eyes across from you are unblinking, terrifying and unknown. This person you thought you knew has changed you forever and the night is yet young. Then she speaks, a husky cracked voice heavy with the weight of eons: 'This my childer is the Long Night. The Age of ... Read the complete review

Vampire is a role play game set in the World of Darkness, which is a universe made by White Wolf and the more adult oriented group Black Dog. Vampire has a number of variants, including Vampire: The Masquerade and Vampire: The Dark Ages. Vampire: The Masquerade is the modern day version, whilst Vampire: The Dark Ages is set in the past. For each of these, there is the 'sit around a table and role die' role play version with a lot of rules, and there is the Minds Eye Theatre version. This has less rules, and is more action based, it is a LARP (Live Action Role Play.) In LARPS you get to dress up, and walk around, pretending that you ... Read the complete review

Initally, a lot. While the first impact of Third Edition books is the beautiful layout, gorgeous artwork and attention to detail which was perhaps lacking in the rather spartan fuctionality of the Second Edition, it is necessary to go deeper than this to see how much has actually changed. Window dressing is all very well, but what has been made better? Well, not the combat rules. They're more complex, and don't work half as well as the Second Edition, which were amongst the finest combat rules of any roleplaying game I've seen. Add to that a huge change to blood pumping rules, and you get a major headache if you're used to Second Edition. ... Read the complete review
