Advantages: Fun, hobby based, range of ways to partake, great alternative to video games

Disadvantages: Time consuming, increasingly expensive

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only fun! The game has been around for over 2 decades now and keeps going from strength to strength. With expansions such as Cities of Death, Apocalypse and the upcoming Planetstrike adding a wider range of ways to play and write scenarios, the possibilities are endless.

The game, if you can call it that rather than a Hobby which is perhaps more appropriate, consists of a number of elements. The first and my personal favorite is the collecting. The miniatures are sold as unassembled, unpainted plastic sprues which you then have to cut, assemble, spray and paint. THis allows you to make your army your own as there are no hard and fast rules to follow. There's a whole range of armies to collect and there's bound to be one to match something you'd enjoy, either in playing style or in their background (more commonly known as fluff).

Of course the main element of the hobby consists of gaming, long story short each unit has their own set of rules and statistics and the chances of taking out your enemy are decided upon a range of probabilities and statistics. Of course this means that luck does come into it but a clever strategist can make all the difference!

If you're not sure whether it's for you pop down to a local Games Workshop, there's dozens around the country and they've been going for over 30 years, they'll take you through the steps and show you how to play a basic game. Give it a go.

Summary: Something different to try, and if you enjoy it you'll be hooked!
