My cousin is to blame for me getting involved in this hobby. Dam him. I have spent ultimately too much money on Games Workshops products, and after stopping the gaming for about 6-8 months, I started up again, thinking, "why oh why did I stop? Its brilliant!" I first collected Chaos Marines, because they were the opposite of the goody good space marines in a way akin to that of Darth Vader to Luke Skywalker. After several months, I played my first game with a strong army and won. I found the hobby fun, exciting challenging, it made me think, and improved my creativity skills. What I dislike was other peoples' reactions but you soon ignore them. So what if I collect small figures, make, and paint them and roll dice and move them about a board? Some would say it?s sad, I see it as a great gaming opportunity, its fun. It gives you a chance to meet new people and with a great mixture of age groups you can make all sorts of new friends.
I recently changed to collecting tyranids (nasty bug creatures like the Alien) that are a lot of fun to play with on the battlefield. Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition is a lot simpler (I have been told) to the old rules. The weapons don?t jam all the time, assault is different statistics have changed, it is less like warhammer fantasy rules also. However, I can?t really compare the two, as I am being quite naive about what I am saying. I bet loads of other gamers will comment saying I?m, talking crap, but I feel that 3rd edition I quality rules and the models produced are superb. Well done Games Workshop, and please don't revise the rules, I cant afford it!
