Advantages: a brillant hobby
Disadvantages: cost and time
My opinion of this great game is that you can enter a world of illusion, mystery, competitiveness or/and just build huge armies to kick your opponant's ass! This game and many others like it are all based in one store for your convenience-Games Workshop! These shops are world-wide and easily accessable within your local highstreet. Now enough about the basics! This game is superb for getting together with your mates, having a laugh and playing the biggest game of highly decorative, creative, technical and is not unlike the battle of chess! In the world of Warhammer 40k you fight as a race general controlling your vast armies across the plains of many worlds. You could be an Imperial commander controlling a human army or you could be an ork warboss getting his many orky friends together to fight the humans. When first met with the bible of Warhammer 40K, the rule book, you are presented with many pieces of literature that can be enjoyable to read along with instructions on how to play the game. The first thing to do once you have read the book is to choose an army that reflects you. This is a very big commitment to the game as you have to build, use and pain- stakingly paint the minature men, beasts, vehicles and dreads; which can be tedious but yet rewarding. Once the armies have been built you can enjoy playing your army to its full potential, allowing you to outwit and generally bamboozal your opponants to finally win the game. You need a large table to play large armies, but any size of table or armies can be used. I use my mates as he has more terrain and a good room to play the game in. It is satisfiying to see your finest warriors trample all over the enemy as it's commander worries about the next turn of battle. This game can be good for all ages and gender, and even if you don't like warhammer 40K you can choose many other role-playing games to play.
The Games-Workshop staff are very good at getting you started on your path to glory! Open days and games are played in many shops around the country, this allows even the beginners to get a good taste of the action and adventure. The cost can range anywhere between £2.50 and £100, depending on what you get. So colleting a large army is somewhat expensive, but is a good investment. If you like the idea of these games there is actually a magazine called White Dwarf, which is available from the Games-Workshop store and many good newsagents. Also many other books can be purchased along the same lines as the games. These books are as good a read as the game is to play. To get a taste of the astmosphere around Games-Workshop they have a web address: www.Games-Workshop.co.uk
