Advantages: Back design ensures comfort

Disadvantages: Slightly odd shape make packing a bit of a challenge

This rucksack is a new version from the Freeflow range from Berghaus and comes with a number of improvements over the earlier models. It is a medium-sized day sack with a main capacity of 35 litres. The +8 name comes from the really well designed expandable 4 litre pockets built into each side. These are ideal for the likes of drinks bottles and all those bits and pieces you will want to be able to get at during the day without having to rummage around in the main compartment. The two compression straps on each side stop these pockets flopping out and keep everything neat and compact.

Inside the main compartment is a slim pocket for holding a hydration bladder which is large enough to manage a 2 litre hydration bladder. There is also a well designed outlet for the bladder hose taking it out over the right shoulder strap where there is an elastic strip stitched on to keep the hose under control. It is conveniently placed for easy use.
The main improvements have been made to the Freeflow back system to allow even better airflow around the back area thus ensuring that there is no moisture build up. The new EvaBreathe shoulder straps, now also have an open honeycomb structure, allowing any heat build up under the shoulder strap to be released easily.
The best thing about this pack is the way it sits so comfortably when you are wearing it. It only seems to touch at the shoulders and waist belt and never seems to press or pull in any way that would make it uncomfortable.
If it has any disadvantages it is that the back design forces the bag into a sort of banana shape which can make packing some items a little bit of a challenge.
Overall, having used the Freeflow IV 35+8 for about six months, I have absolutely no complaints it does exactly what I want it to do and that is carry all my gear without being a pain.
