We have three Speedo Wet Kit Bags in my household which we all share between us when any of us are going swimming. Swimming is something I do with the kids, but it is also something I do for myself in order to help keep me fit - and so I bought three of these because they just seemed like a good idea. I bought them in my local independent sports retailer in Cheltenham on a 3 for 2 offer where each one cost me £8.99 - but I actually got three for £17.98, which obviously equates to just £5.99 each. I don't think this is a bad price, especially as it is a branded product.
The bag comes in black or red - and I personally believe the red bad is nicer because it's more striking. The red bag is mostly red, but then it has a black base with a border and the Speedo logo printed in white on the bag. The drawstring cord is black. I always just love black and red together - and of course it is also gender-neutral.
The bag itself is a good size for swimming wear and a towel - or actually just general sports wear. It's maximum capacity is 12 litres, although I think the bag would be quite uncomfortable to carry if it was this jam packed as there is no padding on the drawstring. The drawstrings are just cord which allows me to open and close the bag and also serves are the handles or backpack straps. The bag is made of water resistant polyester and so this is why it is regarded as a wet kit bag. However it is important to remember that the bag is not plastic and therefore fully waterproof and so you still need to take some precautions, such as squeezing any wet kit out throughly so it is just damp, before it goes into the bag. A positive of the back is that it can be folded down really small when it is not in use and also that it is really very lightweight and so you are really only having to carry around the weight of the stuff you put in it.
Using the bag is fine and it functions as I expected it to. You can pack quite a bit inside it and because it is material it will stretch out if you need to push a little more inside! However, it is not the most comfortable bag to carry because of the non-padded straps and so the weight plays a factor here. Also, if you need to get anything in the bag, it is generally necessary to pull everything out to get to what you want to get to as there are no storage pouches or pockets and so this isn't terribly convenient.
The bag can be washed in the washing machine and I have done so several times. The red colour has faded slightly, but I find this to usually be the case with bright reds. The bag is fairly robust and there is no fraying or breakages on any of the bags - which after about 9 months is quite good.
Overall, I think these bags are fine. They are not amazing, but they serve a purpose and they are perfectly fine.
If you are going to go swimming it makes sense to have a waterproof bag to put your wet towel and trunks/costume in. I used to use a carrier bag inside of my backpack but this Speedo bag which is especially designed for your swimming kit is a much better solution than the carrier bag. It was also really cheap and only cost me £3.99 from my local sports shop which is the main reason that I bought it as if it had been expensive I would have probably just continued to use a carrier to be honest.
I have the black version but I know it also comes in red and blue so it might also come in other colours too. The bag is made of polyester and is waterproof. Or waterproof to the extent that my wet swimming towel and trunks do not leak through the fabric.
Inside the bag isn't all that roomy and capacity is going to be at a minimum but as you are probably only going to be using it at the swimming pool it should be enough for most people. It will fit in your towel and trunks/costume ok and also your clothes, wallet etc when you are in the pool. Even when filled to capacity it is an ideal size for all lockers and it fits in fine without having to remove stull out of it like I have to do with my backpack.
The bag doesn't have zips to close it and instead you need to secure it shut by pulling on the strings to tighten it. This still leaves a gap on top so not ideal if it is raining for example and you want to keep things dry.
It also has thin string shoulder straps which aren't the most comfortable things in the world and it never seems to sit on my shoulders properly without sliding about.
Because it isn't all that comfortable to wear I usually just use as I would a carrier bag and place it in my backpack. It does do a good job of keeping my backpack from getting wet and it has the added benefit of stopping my backpack from smelling with socks and trainers etc. It is also really lightweight so can be stored away easily. I actually took it camping with me recently so that I could store my dirty clothes away from the rest of my things and it packed away taking up hardly any room whatsoever.
At the end of the day this is a cheap polyester bag that does what it is supposed to. There is nothing fancy about it but if you are wanting something that will keep your wet towels and costume separated from your dry things then this does the job well. Just don't buy it expecting it to be comfortable to wear as it isn't.
Before joining the gym, I would go swimming at the local pool to keep fit. I bought this handy wet kit bag to take my swimming stuff to the pool and back again. As I now go to the gym more often than swimming, I have a large gym bag as I have more kit to carry around such as trainers. These wet kit bags are perfect for a towel, swimming costume and goggles but you will not be able to fit in much more than this.
Speedo do a range of kit bags in different colours but the one I own is black with black straps.
==Price and availability==
The bags cost around £9.99. Unfortunately you are just paying for the brand name, if you have an unbranded plain bag it would be the same quality and probably a third of the price. They can be bought from swim shops, sport shops and online stores such as Amazon.
The measurements of the bag are length= 36cm (14"), height= 46cm (18") with a capacity of 12Lt. There is only one compartment and the bag opens and closes with a draw stirng fastener, the drawstring also forms the straps of the bag. The bag is made from polyester but it is quite water resistant making it great for holding wet kit.
The bag is thin and you can see all the lumps and bumps of the items you put in it. The bag is really lightweight and weighs next to nothing, you can easily fold the bag up to a really small size when not in use.
If you overfill the bag, the straps can get extremely uncomfortable as they are really thin ropes and can cut into your shoulders. If I am to use this bag I will only have my swim stuff, a towel and probably some shampoo and conditioner. There are no extra pockets so if you also put your keys and purse in here, it can be a pain to search for them in and amongst all your belongings. The bag is perfect for wet kit as it is water resistant and as long as your kit is not slopping wet, it will not leak onto your back through the bag.
If you are conscious about security and want to put your purse in here, then it is safe as the bag cannot be opened without you knowing, gravity pulls the bag down keeping the drawstring locked tight. To open you need to pull the bag open at the neck so do not worry that someone can open it and remove things without you knowing.
I have had my bag for years and it remains in good condition. Although over the time the straps have frayed a little bit so they look untidy and the logo has scratched off in places. This is probably down to the water and chlorine as it is only printed on in the first place. Probably a bit disappointing though as the main selling point is the logo and it is what makes it different from all the other similar bags on the market!
