My daughter started her first day of Nursery the day after her 3rd birthday. She had been watching her older sister being dropped off at school each morning and was excited that she was finally getting to go too. As my eldest daughter took a bag with her to school each day, my little one insisted that it was only fair that she had one to take as well. We spent around twenty minutes looking online for a backpack and in the end she chose this lovely Gruffalo bag which I am reviewing today.
I bought this backpack from Amazon for £9.99. I selected free super saver delivery and the bag arrived well packaged a few days after my order was placed.
The backpack is 100% nylon and the front is PVC coated. The picture is a lovely illustration taken from The Gruffalo book, it shows the Gruffalo and the Little Brown Mouse standing on a grassy area with a beautiful blue sky behind them. Because the front is PVC coated it has a lovely shine to it. The text on the front says "Oh help! Oh no! It's a Gruffalo" in lovely black writing. It is bright and colourful. The picture is very cute and my daughter absolutely loves it. The back and sides of the backpack are blue with Gruffalo footprints along the bottom. Also on the side is a bright Orange tag with the Gruffalo logo on. Ontop we have a green carry handle which my daughter often uses, it is extremly strong. The green back straps are also of a brilliant durable quality, they are adjustable which ensures a good fit. The white zip is located on top of the bag, we have had no problems with the zip getting stuck and my daughter has always found it easy enough to open and close herself. The zip did have an attached PVC "Nut" but this snapped off fairly early on, I think the nut could have been better attached, but this is only a minor annoyance.
As I mentioned before this backpack was initially bought for her to use for nursery, she would take a change of clothes and underwear in it and hang it up on her peg at school. She got quite a few positive comments from the other children in her class and I thought it made a nice little talking point. Children would often say to her "I love the Gruffalo too". My daughter does not take this to Nursery as much anymore, but it is still well used. It will often be packed with a few small books or toys when travelling in the car or when we go away for a few days. I think having her own bag makes her feel a little more independant and grown up. The bag is still in excellent condition and I can see it lasting at least a few more years. It is strong, durable and of an excellent quality. The PVC front is easy to wipe clean, I have also hand washed the backpack, but would not recommend putting it in the washing machine.
The bag is the perfect size for a small child, I think it would be most suitable for children between 3-5, but of course all kids are different to this is just a rough estimate.
This is a great little backpack that I have no problem recommending
