*Where From and How Much?*
I bought this tin of soup recently from Aldi after having many positive experiences with their soups. A 400g tin cost me 69p.
*The Packaging*
This soup is from Aldi's 'Special Recipe' range. The tin has a paper label with is mostly brown in colour with a large photograph of this soup dressed with a sprig of parsley. It looks very appetising. The metal can and paper label are both widely recycled.
*Nutritional Bits*
Per 100g of this soup contains:
91 calories
1.2g protein
7.3g carbs
6.3g fat
0.9g salt equivalent
*Allergy Advice*
Contains fish, gluten, wheat and milk and may contain traces of peanuts, other nuts, egg, soya and celery.
*First Impressions*
Opening this can with the built in ring pull lid, releases a very strong smell of fish. The cream-yellow coloured soup is thick and creamy, similar to the consistency of a condensed soup. There are very noticeably small chunks of potato and peas and sweetcorn bobbing around. It does look and smell good and this further increased once I had heated the soup in the microwave for three and a half minutes.
*What Did I Think?*
Well, after being impressed with the smell and look of this soup I was sadly not impressed with the flavour. It simply does not taste of fish, well ever so, ever so slightly. There is only 3% fish in this soup so I really feel it needs a lot more to add the smoked haddock flavour. The peas were also pretty tasteless. The sweetcorn was nice, with a nice consistency and tasted sweet and fresh.
Overall I am pretty disappointed with this soup. It's pretty flavourless - certainly not as fishy as I would have hoped. Although I thought this was a good price for such a 'special soup' I just feel let down. I also thought that the calorie content was a bit over the top for a soup. Aldi do far tastier soups which are cheaper and less calorie laden.
I am glad I tried this because now I know not to try it again!
Summary: won't be buying this again
