      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Absolutely horrible and pathetic attempt at a soup by ASDA. It smells like cat food and tastes even worse. I had one small mouthful and threw the rest away. Needless to say I will not be buying any other ASDA soups...what were they thinking?I can't believe this is in production - the smell alone is enough to put anyone off. Cheap and nasty.

A filling soup, if you can bare to consume it that is lol

When it comes to cooking I'm not a fan of it to be totally honest with you. I lead a rather busy life and feel like I'm always on the go so in my cupboards I do tend to have a few packets of noodles about and ready meals and tins that I can simply empty into a dish in the microwave and voila dinner is served type of thing! I am a soup fan and today needed a spot of lunch before hitting the gym and this was my soup of choice!

      The Packaging....

400g tin with a dark brown label around the middle of it and on that is a photograph of the soup and I'm told it is Asda 'New' Beef & Vegetable Soup then on the back of the can other information given includes ingredients, allergy and nutritional advice, heating instructions and contact details for Asda. It's an ok looking can and not cheap and nasty though I don't like the way there is no ring pull feature to the top of it at all although it is easy enough of course to open I just find it one of many gripes lol.

      Heating Instructions....

Tip the contents into a saucepan and heat gently over a moderate heat for 4-5 minutes or pop it in the microwave 3 minutes in total.

      The Soup....

Absolutely yukky and vile I hated it and I mean hated it, so much so it landed in the bin in disgust, I just couldn't eat the stuff!

I microwaved mine as directed and when I emptied the can contents into my large dish it was a watery brown colour with a slight orangy greasy film to the top of it and stunk to high heavens of onions and actually reminded me of a school dinner smell from years ago! As I got to the bottom of the can I had to scrape out the vegetable and meat mixture (which was like sludge) into the dish and stir it into the liquid and then I cooked it.

It smelt very much of vegetables by the time I got the soup out of the microwave and was cooked through well and looked a little better (I.E the greasy film had disappeared) but really the soup still looked watery and the soup hadn't gone any thicker through cooking and the vegetable mixture had sunk to the bottom of my dish.

Taste wise this just wasn't good. I think it's vile. The liquid is thin and not at all seasoned and basically it's just a very runny tasting light vegetable stock with bits in it of what I think it meat but doesn't actually taste that way.

The sunken vegetable mixture (onion, potato, carrot and marrow fat peas, were all overly cooked and quite slimy and again not seasoned so contained barely any taste at all. That whole vegetable mixture was bound together with pearl barley making it gloopy and not only did it not taste nice it didn't look it either though there was plenty of it!

I didn't like this it was flavourless but smelly soup. No chunks of meat could be found and I didn't like the watery top layer and thick, stodgy vegetable bottom. Not good!
