Askeys Treat Strawberry flavour dessert sauce is a thick red sticky liquid and has an intense strawberry flavour, if just a little bit chemically enhanced. But then again what isn't enhanced these days. It comes in an attractive blue plastic bottle, which is shaped roughly like a figure 8 and has a picture of a star brandishing a magic wand, with a flip top lid which opens to reveal a nozzle through which the liquid flows easily. Squeeze the bottle and you'll get even more sauce out.
The label on the back reveals that it will "magically transform all your favourite desserts into even tastier treats with a simple squirt." Well so far I've tried it on buttermilk pancakes (drizzle some on whilst they are still hot and it melts into them, delicious), rice pudding, porridge, ice cream and tinned fruit, and I have to say I haven't been disappointed with any of the results. But then again I do have a sweet tooth and I do like the flavour of strawberry, although I don't like strawberries themselves, strange I know.
There's also the usual list of ingredients and nutitional information, but if you're only having this as a "Treat" just once in a while, then what's the worry about calories.
All in all a good product that deserves a place in your cupboard.
Poundland had some in the other day, I might have to go and invest in another bottle.
My children love ice cream and I don't really know anyone who doesn't! My son has constantly been reminding me to buy some ice cream so I went out and got some nice Cornish vanilla ice cream the other day. I almost chose Neapolitan which is one of our old favourites but I thought I would just choose a nice Cornish one and buy some sauce to go on top of it.
The kids and I both like Strawberry and Chocolate sauces and on this occasion I opted for the strawberry one; I chose this Askeys Strawberry flavour dessert sauce.
Askeys state on the bottle that it 'magically transforms all your favourite desserts into even tastier treats with a simple squirt! Great on ice cream, pancakes, rice pudding, fruit and much more'
Personally with me and my children tastes we would only use it on ice cream. This sauce is quite thick and full of strawberry flavour. It's sweet and goes really well mixed into vanilla ice cream.
Invert sugar syrup, concentrated strawberry juice, colour; mixed anthocyanin's, citric acid, natural flavouring.
Per 100g of the product there are 309kcals; the bottle itself contains 325g.
It's easy to think that this product should be refrigerated; but it must not be; it must be stored in a cool place
This currently available at Asda for only £1.28
This is reasonably priced and goes quite a long way; in my opinion worthy of 4 Dooyoo stars
I can't be the only parent the dreads that ice cream van coming round. We get 3 a day and the annoying thing about it is that it comes round at the wrong time in the day. My children stand at the window when they hear the music and then when they have him in sights the windging starts. I have now solved this problem Askeys treat sauce.
This is a strawberry sauce that sets of f a bowl or cone of ice cream lovely just like the 99's from the ice cream man. It is red in colour but I must warn is very sticky. I used to have this when I was a child but never remember it being as nice as this. It is very sweet and really sets the ice cream off. I think it has a juicy flavour but it does not hold any artificial colours or flavourings which is good especially for the children.
These are quiet simple simply open the top and pour over your dessert. This does tend to drip if you are putting it on a cone which you have to try and get the children to lick it as soon as possible. There is no need to shake the bottle and it is easily stored in a cupboard.
There is only one down point and that is the fact that it is sticky, if you do not replace the cap properly then a spillage always seems to occur and if this does happen you will find that all surfaces will become very gooey and so will the bottle this doesn't cause major problems it is easily cleaned but doesn't seem very pleasant when you go to use it.
This tastes really nice but you will have to be a lover of strawberry flavours to enjoy this. It makes puddings very fun for adults and children and it tastes very sweet so even the most boring of puddings are made to come alive. I would recommend this to add to a pudding and it is not very expensive. When I bought this I paid £1 it is not priced at £1.29 in my local supermarket. Prices may vary from store to store. I find that it is cheap and cheerful.
