Advantages: Easy, tasty, convenient
Disadvantages: More pricey than powdered gravy, quite thin
I recently bought this as I was basically just being lazy when making a small joint of beef just for two of us. I would normally use the jars of powdered Bisto if 'cheating' with gravy but I thought I would give this a go.
It cost me 89p from the Co-op, which didn't seem bad really, but thinking about it afterwards when compared with a jar of Bisto which makes many servings it is not such great value. However, you are paying for the convenience I guess and it certainly is a very convenient, quick and easy product.
It comes in a puch and you simply snip the corner off and stick it in the microwave or pour it into a saucepan and heat it that way. I chose to do it in th microwave, a decision I later regretted because it fell over in the microwave (you have to stand it upright) and spilt most of the contents all over! This was probably partially user error, but also that my microwave isn't very high inside and the pack is quite tall so it got knocked over. Anyway, in future I will use the pan option.
The gravy was thinner than I expected, I don't mind reasonably thin gravy but if you prefer it quite thick then you may be disappointed. The taste however was pretty good and I would actually say it is slightly nicer than the normal powdered Bisto gravy, as wll as being convenient. It is hard to say how many this would serve as obviously some of mnine had spilt (!) but I think it would struggle to serve four people if you all want a decent amount.
It is obviously not a patch on 'real' gravy but it i quite nice nonetheless.
Summary: It's all gravy!
