Branston Brown Sauce
Advantages: Nice if you like really tangy sauces
Disadvantages: Bit too vinegary for me!
My Step-dad loves his brown sauce! Me and my Mum like it as well but he's the main user of it in my home cos he really does love his bacon sarnies and steak pies and loves a good ole dollop of a brown sauce on it or he sulks for England!
My Mum usually gets HP sauce and has done for years, however of late she's been trying a few cheaper brands out to save a few pennies here and there and she got hold of this really large size of this for £1.75 (also available in 470g for £1.20 ish, (prices taken from Sainsbury's where Mum got ours from). He loves Branston pickle and in her mind she thought he'd love this lol.
Both sizes I have seen are in a plastic see-through squeezy bottle with a white flip top plastic lid/cap to the bottom it. On the front label I'm told it's Crosse & Blackwell Branston 'New' Brown Sauce With Branston Bite. On the back label other information includes ingredients and nutritional information and I'm told it's Vegetarian and contact details for Premier Amibient Products Ltd (the manufacturer of this product) are given. It's quite a functional bottle and easy enough to squeeze and it's informative enough.
Dark brown, incredibly smooth and of good consistency being not too runny and having a bit of body to it. It's glossy and smells fruity and tangy.
Taste wise well it's very sharp and quite vinegary really (this does contain malt vinegar). You can taste tangy dates, apples and tomatoes which are blended well of course to make the sauce fruity. It has a slightly natural sweetness to it along with a secret mix of spices and a hint of garlic (you only taste that though if you eat alot of it though lol).
Really tangy and this sauce states it has bite...and it really does. For me it's a bit too tangy and sharp and overpowers food a little too much in my opinion. If you like your tangy sauces however you'll probably love this and there is no disputing this is of excellent quality it just depends on your taste-buds! It's slightly sticky, sour and a little goes a long way and my Step-dad loves it! Great value and if this is all I could buy I would but personally I prefer good ole HP sauce!
