Advantages: Tasty, warming, filling yet low in fat.

Disadvantages: None

Heinz Lentil soup comes from their classic range. It makes a lovely soup for a cold winter's day but I ate some for my lunch today, even though the temperature reached 31 degrees.

It is especially nice as it's such a warming soup but, I also have this when I'm in a hurry so need something quick to eat for my lunch. I find that this particular soup, more than most others, makes a meal with nothing other than bread to accompany it. This makes it a quick meal but very satisfying. Today I had sliced, lightly buttered bread with it and, yes, I did dip the bread into the soup! Crusty bread also goes with this very well. It also makes an ideal starter and is especially ideal for a starter if you have many to feed on a low budget as it is quite filling so a few tins of this will help the meal as a whole to go further.

This soup also makes a nice supper.

It's a healthy soup as it's low in fat, which is good for me, but I mainly eat this just owing to the fact that it is very tasty. And as I don't eat meat I do think that lentils are an important addition to my diet.

This, as with most tinned soups, is so simple and quick to prepare. I choose to heat this gently in a saucepan on the hob for a few minutes but, if you prefer, it can be warmed in the microwave oven for three minutes ( based on microwave oven category E, 850 w).

This soup varies in price but I usually pay around the eighty pence per 400g can. I usually buy from either Sainsbury's or Iceland supermarkets. Sometimes it can be purchased on a multi buy offer. I think it provides a good meal for that price.

Heinz Lentil soup is suitable for vegetarians.
