“ Brand: Heinz / Type: Soups „
If you like potatoes and a nice thick soup you will like this variety of Heinz Big Soup. I have started yet another diet and I will quite often eat soup in winter when dieting. I have had Big Soup before, so thought I would try it again. I spotted this tasty looking in Sainsburys. On the can it states the soup is 'full on flavour' . I would agree with this. The soup is beefy in flavour, thick, has loads of small chunks of potatoes and a fair few chunks of Beef too. The Beef is slightly chewy, but the soup is very filling.
This particular Big Soup comes in a 500g can (you can get other flavours in 400g cans) but this one is ideal for me. I will eat half the can with a slice of toast for lunch and then have the rest the next day.
Calorie wise, its great; in half a can there are only 121 calories, add a slice of toast or bread and butter and your only talking about 250 calories for lunch!
I also really like potatoes in a soup so I was really pleased to find this one. I will be looking around for other flavours too as im quite impressed with this.
You can either cook the soup on the hob gently (do not boil) or microwave for approximately 4 minutes (if you use the whole can).
Water, Potatoes, Carrots, Angus steak, Concentrated tomato puree, onions, Modified cornflour, Yeast extracts, Flavouring, Salt, Caramelised sugar syrup, Garlic salt, White pepper, Herbs.
There are no artficial preservatives or colours in this soup.
This 500g can costs around £1.40 at Tesco. I would say its good value for money for a tasty and filling soup which can make 2 lunches or serve 2 people.
Worthy of 4 Dooyoo stars in my view.
Heinz Big Soups are so versatile and that's why I always keep a couple of tins in my cupboard at home. They are great to have at lunchtime but I also quite often will have them for an evening meal. As the soups are available in large tins of 515g it's just the right size my husband and I to share with a couple of slices of bread.
This steak and potato soup is basically like a stew in a tin. I love the meaty flavour it has and the meat is very nice and tender. The chunky potatoes and carrots really bulk out the soup which makes it perfect to have for dinner. The soup may seem expensive at £1 - £1.10, when there are own brands available at a cheaper price. However you are paying for the quality of this product and when the 515g tin easily feeds 2 people it is a cheap lunch or dinner to have with minimal effort and washing up! The only problem I find is that the tin is a bit too large for one person.
You can microwave the contents but I personally heat mine in a saucepan. It doesn't take long because everything is already soft and cooked, you just need to heat it through. I usually put mine on the hob for 5 - 10 minutes on a low heat so that it doesn't boil (electric hob setting 3 or 4).
Overall I think this is a good buy and everyone should have a couple of cans in their cupboards. It is value for money and the soup tastes fantastic too.
