In this cold wintery weather, I often find I crave hot, comforting food . Now, most of the time I have time to cook something from scratch, but sometimes, I'm pushed for time and can't be bothered , so having a cupboard full of quick fixes and tins is handy.
I always have soups . Ton's of them, and yesterday my hungry eyes saw this one Weight Watchers Carrot and Lentil Soup, purchased ages ago and looking lonely and forlorn in my cupboard . I could go into passionate description of the packaging, but really, its a tin, with a picture of soup, and a Weightwatchers logo . The tin is 295 grams, enough for a nice large bowl.
The packaging tells you how to heat it up - complete with microwave instructions . I just chucked mine into a pan, poked it about a bit, and ate it when it was hot with some nice crusty bread.
The soups a lovely summery orange colour, with small chunks of carrot and lentil inside. There's a whiff of tomato in the smell, and the soup tastes a little of tomato too , with a hint of coriander perhaps. Its a lovely thick texture , aided I feel by the yummy lentils which seem to melt in the mouth, and it feels satisfying to eat, unlike some thinner soups . I found that it was quite filling, although I was dipping bread into it too, but at 86 calories per tin, it would also be ideal for a snack mid afternoon .
Being weightwatchers, its also low in fat (less than 1G) and only one and a half weight watchers points per tin . However, it does contain 2g of salt, which seems a lot . I think I will buy some more of this, as the weather is still cold, and its a lovely warming, satisfying bowl of soup., and at only 86p, its a real bargain .
